Red October
is a fanfic by Qihao56, and is a crossover between Kancolle and From the Depths.
A construct is pulled out of the ocean to enter the Abyssal War. But as she lacks the hope associated with the Kanmusu or the despair associated with the Abyssals, she has no idea what to do.
Eh, she'll figure out something. And both sides will tremble in fear when she does.

Tropes in this story include:
- Armor-Piercing Question: When talking to Belfast and Perseus, Red October asks why they serve humanity, with Belfast answering that it is because they were created by humans. Red promptly asks what they would do if humans hadn't created them. Belfast struggles to come up with an answer before admitting that the Kanmusu would probably find their own reason to exist and just live a little.
- Brutal Honesty: When Red October starts salvaging a wreck almost immediately after it had been sunk, Belfast and Perseus point out that she is stealing from the humans. Red, who doesn't have any connection to mankind, points out that the humans have no way to move the wreck, so it is salvage.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Red October vs anyone else ends in Red's favor. She's simply too tough for them to hurt.
- The Dreaded: Once it becomes apparent how monstrously durable Red is, Kanmusu and Abyssals tend to treat her with fear.
- Mythology Gag: It's noted by Belfast that, over the years, Abyssal color schemes have shifted from Blue, to Red, and then Yellow - the colors used in the game to indicate elite status among abyssal units.
- Outside-Context Problem: Red October is an entity unlike any of the Kanmusu or Abyssals, lacking the hope or despair associated with either party. She even manages to summon the nuclear sub Florida after repairing the Sub's reactor just bfore humans scuttle the ship. She eventually settles on naming herself a Simulacrum after a conversation with Florida. More to the point, she's a Cold War era nuclear submarine when both Abyssals and Kanmusu are so far restricted to World War II vessels and earlier.
- Ridiculously Fast Construction: Red builds a ship in less than a day, something that, even for the Abyssals, is pushing their limits.
- Right Behind Me: Belfast ends up seeing a post on the news revealing that Red October and her new "daughter" Florida have made landfall. She tries to tell this to Perseus, only for the latter to reveal that the two Simulacrums are literally right behind Belfast. Belfast barely manages to suppress a panic attack when she learns this.
- Shout-Out: The first documented Abyssal infiltrator is noted to have posed as a construction worker.
