Raiders of the Inner Sphere
is a fanfic by Follower38. It is a crossover between Battletech and Starcraft.
While doing a routine warp jump, Raynors' Raiders somehow manage to cross universes and end up in the Inner Sphere. Massive shockwaves follow as the Terrans try to find their place in this strange new universe.
Tropes in this story include:
- Alternate Timeline: On the Starcraft side, Hanson is still with the Raiders despite Haven being saved from the Protoss.
- Lost Technology: LosTech, as in canon fro Battletech. The mere fact that Lost Technology exists, however, causes small breakdowns in Hanson and Stetman, due to the implied severity of a conflict that caused so many Star League techs to become lost.
- Outside-Context Problem: The Raiders to the Inner Sphere, big time. While they have many unique tactics and technologies, the biggest shocker is the fact that they know how to build everything they use, and not just in the sense of building a tank or a mech, but actually being able to build the factories that build said machines. Additionally, while everyone in Battletech uses dropships and jumpships, the Raiders have dedicated warships. The lore snippets at the start of each chapter outright state that the Raiders' arrival effectively rewrote how wars are fought.
- Technologically Advanced Foe: The Raiders versus just about anyone in the Battletech universe. This isn't just because of all the esoteric technologies the Raiders possess, but also because they have the ability to replace said technology if they suffer losses - something that is practically unheard of due to much of the weapons in the setting being Lost Technology.
