Only Truly Dead
by attackfish is an Avatar: The Last Airbender oneshot based around the theory that some Air Nomads survived the Fire Nation genocide.
The story tells the tales of several Air Nomad survivors. It also tells of the descendants of these survivors.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Child by Rape: One of the women survives by being kidnapped by an admiral, who passes her as an injured Fire Nation soldier. Tong has her kept in a cabin and impregnates her. He ends up forcing her into marriage with the threat of death.
- Curse Cut Short: Lui Hui is cut off by Tong in one conversation.Tong: "I'm taking you with me to meet my family."Lu Hui: "You son of a-"Tong: "No one has to know you're an Air Nomad."
- Dark Fic: The story deals with the Fire Nation genocide of the Air Nomads. It also touches upon other darker elements as well.
- Death of a Child: A lot, if not all, of the younger kids survive, but most of the older children don't make it out of the temple.
- Hiding Your Heritage: The sand-benders, June, the Yu-Yan Archers and Ty Lee are all descended from Air Nomads who survived a century prior. They all hide it, if they even know about their heritage.
- Spiteful Spit: Lu Hui spits in Tong's face when he says that he wants to take care of her and their child.
