Neon Webs is a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Crossover Fan Fiction with elements from Spider-Man, where instead of finding the Sandevistan, David is instead bit by a spider and develop the same powers as Spider-Man, a Show Within a Show comics from before the Corporate Wars.

Written by Desert Chocolate, it can be read here on Archive of Our Own and here on Space Battles.

Beware of unmarked Spoilers!

The story has the following examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Due to David not using the Sandevistan to fight Katsuo, Tanaka Sr could not give less of a fuck about his son's injuries. David is safe from being targeted by Arasaka, for now.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness:
    • With his Spider-Powers, David receives the usual height and muscle boosts. Both himself and Lucy Compare him to a Mr Studd Model or a Professional Athlete in their internal monologues.
    • Lucy and Rebecca have a verbal catfight over David in Chapter 7.
  • Adaptational Karma: David initially sleeps through Katsuo's call mocking the death of Gloria. When he hears it after learning he has Superpowers, he forgoes the Sandevistan entirely and shatters Katsuo's Jaw with just his raw strength.
  • An Arm and a Leg: In his first fight, David accidentally amputates a 6th Street Member's arm. He has the perfectly sane reaction: Quip.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • With Spider-Sense alerting him to danger while in the Moon BD, David enters a 1v4 with Maine, Dorio, Pilar and Lucy. He is able to force a stalemate by utilising Lucy's monowires against the crew.
    • David beats Rhino from Cyberpunk 2077 with relative ease. He earns her respect and is invited to learn proper technique with the Animals.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?:
    • Much to his own immediate embarrassment, David calls himself: "The Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man" when asked by a civilian.
    • David absentmindedly compares to himself to a Spider when Lucy complements his sneakiness.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: David is not happy to learn that the first firefight he intervened in, was caused by some 6th Street Members not wanting to pay up after losing a Sports bet to Tyger Claws.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • Spider-Man Comics were actually real in the Cyberpunk Universe, with them being cancelled in 1990 when Marvel was bought out. Ironically Peter Parker's ended in a good place in the Cyberpunk universe: Happily Married to MJ with no Clones, Miscarriages or Deals with the Devil.
    • Due to his suite of Spider-Powers being more useful in combination than the Sandevistan, David sells it to Maine. This circumvents his own descent into Cyberpsychosis, but undoubtedly accelerates Maine's.
  • Impossible Task: David wants to help protect and save lives to spare others from the pain of losing their loved ones, even if it's just for One More Day.
  • It Began with a Twist of Fate: David gets his powers through sheer coincidence, with the Spider landing on him after Katsuo beats him up.
  • The Conspiracy: Someone, maybe a Corpo, maybe a Scientist was able to successfully recreate Spider-Man's powers and make a Spider that could grant said powers to anyone. This is a massive Game-changer for the Cyberpunk Universe, and could honestly start a new Corpo War over control of this new biotech.
