Neon Knights is a Mega Crossover written by Eva Unit 01's.
Done in a style vaguely resembling Super Robot Wars, this work combines the characters and/or settings of Neon Genesis Evangelion/Rebuild of Evangelion,Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Code Geass...and Disgaea into a world where the humanity is on the brink of annihilation... and proceeds to commence the asskicking.
Not to be confused with the Roblox game with the same name.
Tropes used in this work include:
- Alternate Universe: Yui Ikari has Adell for an older brother, Shinji is sent to live with him and Rozalin... in San Francisco.... Asuka is a modified human and cyborg, the Soviet Union still exists (at least as of 2002), and Simon the Digger is a former American soldier, then a Senator for New Jersey, and running for President.
- Anachronic Order: Up to the fourth chapter, scenes are written out of order and in different years.
- Anti-Hero: Mari's had a few questionable moments in how she's dealt with Britannians, implying that the Fantastic Racism is mutual. Except that in her case, it's kind of treated more like The Dog Bites Back. She goes apeshit whenever Britannians push her around, but genuinely likes Euphemia, and is shown to at least be neutral towards Cornelia and Schniezel. She also mentions that she was fond of "Marianne's kids", Lelouch and Nunally.
- The Cameo: They include Death the Kid and Franken Stein, Johann Faust VIII, Lightning and Cid Raines, Aya Brea, and Shinra Kishitani.
- Charles Atlas Superpower: Seems to be the case with the Disgaea cast. Even if they're not as powerful as in their own canon, the fact remains that Laharl can throw a heavy desk at high speed, and Adell can, with a single punch, reduce that desk into splinters. As well as punch Simon out of his house, across the street, and leave a massive dent in the latter's car.
- Conspiracy Theorist: Mari suspects that Emperor Charles himself murdered Marianne and had her children exiled to Japan, where they (as far as she is aware) died in the subjugation.
- In-Series Nickname: Zero One, the first Neon Knight, is affectionately nicknamed John Henry by the staff, since its equipped weapon is a hammer.
- Made of Iron:
- Simon, for being able to take the aforementioned punch with no discernable injuries.
- The Disgaea characters are nothing more than men. Very very strong and wacky men, but men nonetheless. Except for Rozalin, which will be explained much later on.
- 5* Motive Rant: Asuka gets a weird variation of this,
- Mundane Made Awesome: Mari Makinami, fourth grader... versus a math test. Treated like the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny.
- Official Couple: Aside from Adell/Rozalin, the author's been pretty blatant that Shinji and Mari will shape up to be this.
- Original Generation:
- Gate Thompson - also an Expy of Ginta Toramizu. He also shares a few traits with Kensuke Aida.
- NERV-USA's mecha, the Neon Knights, also fall under this, although NK-Zero One is stated to be based on the M-9 Gernsback sized up to an Evangelion. They are fueled by the pilot's emotions, more specifically courage and willpower through GS-Ride.
- Puppy Love: Shinji and Mari get a moment when they're four.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge/Unstoppable Rage: While it was offscreen, Simon apparently went apeshit when Kamina died in the Battle of Teppelin City... and single-handedly wiped out the enemy forces, winning the battle.
- Shout-Out:
- The Disgaea characters are cops. And still in character.
- Mari's speech and ensuing scene in the second chapter is one long reference to Mobile Fighter G Gundam, although also throwing a few other references in as well, such as to GaoGaiGar, Buso Renkin, Dissidia Duodecim, and Warhammer 40,000.
- The style of the crossover was apparently inspired by Super Robot Wars.
- Asuka is an unintentional one to the SPARTANs.
- Stealth Hi/Bye: Mari seems to enjoy showing up out of nowhere and suddenly kissing people.
- Who Would Win:
- Shinji and Gate have one such discussion In-Universe, involving Presidential Candidate Simon "The Digger" Teppelin, Batman, Solid Snake, and Hulk Hogan.
- One of Gate's dreams is apparently deciding one of these between Superman and Godzilla.
