"SPOILER ALERT" Spoilers are currently unmarked, read at your own risk.

My Teen Romantic Comedy became an Isekai Historical Fantasy (Oregairu/ROTK) provides examples of:

  • All-Loving Hero: What Liu Bei is or what he appears to be, the only two views we have had on this are both heavily biased either leaning for or against. However the truth might be somewhere in between.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Da Qiao is called Nianzhen in this fic. Justified since that is her style/courtesy name which she was given upon marrying Hachiman. Historically her name was not Da Qiao which meant Elder/Big Qiao.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Hachiman has noted that several of the Characters here have elements of their Romance of the Three Kingdoms and their historical Counterparts, among other variations.
  • Big Brother Worship: Sun Ren when we first see her in the story seems to suffer from this. Suffers from it badly
  • Brutal Honesty: Hachiman never hold back when ripping on someone, it got to the point he got a reputation on utterly humiliating any enemy that he come across.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: In-Universe Hachiman's modern morals and even hygiene standards are rather alien to most characters. Justified as such things like cutting your hair in Confucianism is considered hurting your parents and shaving and keeping his hair short is something Hachiman is noted to do.
  • Chaste Hero: Hachiman is implied to be this despite being married, though having your Blood Brother assassinated on your wedding night along with the fact that your wife historically was supposed to be his might have complicated things further. Add in the fact that Both Hachiman and Nianzhen are in a very hostile court. Leaves Hachiman being Chaste Hero out of pragmatism more than anything else.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Zhang Fei's punishment for losing Xiapi to Lu Bu? Liu Bei forbids him to drink Wine or any other alcoholic substance. turns out to work favorably for Liu Bei though. As a sober Zhang Fei is more like his Historical Counterpart
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: To provoke Lu Bu into pursuing his forces Hachiman brazenly called him 'The Bastard of Three Fathers.' Cue Lu Bu swatting him off his horse and Hachiman needing to be saved by Yan Baihu and Dong Xi.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Pang Tong as an appraiser is stated to be an be this. Hachiman claims this with Tian Feng in a flash back.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Lu Bu above all but what do you expect when he is given Cao Cao's Ravages of Time speech? Hachiman also tries to invoke this trope, though he ends up being spared.
  • Flashback: Much of Hachiman's interactions with characters outside of Cao Cao's forces occur in these. These flashbacks usually depicted at the end of Chapter showcasing changes that Hachiman has caused to characters who have interacted with him.
  • Happily Adopted: Hachiman at some point before the fic started was adopted into the Sun Family. Lu Linqi at some point after Lu Bu died was adopted by Hachiman.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Cao Cao only took notice of Hachiman when Lu Bu demanded that Hachiman plead on his behalf to Cao Cao to be spared. Hachiman having previously dubbed Lu bu as the 'Bastard of Three Fathers' doesn't want Lu Bu to be spared. So he uses Cao Cao's own speech from Ravages of Time to convince Cao Cao to kill Lu Bu. The Kicker was that if he had never called Lu Bu the bastard of Three Father's Cao Cao would have never paid too much attention too him.
  • I Shall Taunt You: This is Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it wouldn't be complete without characters partaking in such actions. Though seen mainly as a an effective strategy to force an enemy to attack and can sometimes even incapacitate an enemy. it does have the side effect of painting a large target on your back. As Hachiman learned the hard way.
  • Official Couple: Hachiman and Da Qiao, though due to various reasons, their relationship is rather complicated.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: Sun Ce's assassination is what causes Hachiman to travel north seeking revenge. Resulting in him meeting Liu Bei both Cao Cao
  • Red Baron: In true Romance of the Three Kingdoms fashion, just about every character of note has one. Some even have several.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Both Hachiman and Da Qiao suffer from this, both drop everything they have and leave on a quest to pursue vengeance against the one who thety think wronged the. Little Wonder then that they are an Official Couple.
  • Shout-Out: Deliberately invoked In-Universe. Hachiman will quote other versions of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms to people to avoid having to properly answer them or just to save his skin.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Most of Lu Bu's forces both those who betrayed him and those who didn't are alive and well almost ten years after they die in Canon. Tian Feng here survives Yuan Shao's defeat and is now in the Service of Liu Bei. Huang Zu is also alive having survived losing Jiangxia to Sun Quan's forces.
  • The Dreaded: While he was Alive Lu Bu certainly was. Cao Cao currently is to the other Warlords. Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are stated to be to most warriors and Hachiman holds not only Zhao Yun but Liu Bei in such regard. Ironically Hachiman himself is also seen as this.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Thanks to Hachiman's self deprication and self loathing, he always put himself down and make it as if he is less 'worthy' then he actually is, for example is his combat skill, if you judge from his narration you would have think that he is just a good commander with no combat ability, then comes his fight with Zhao Yun, one of Three Kingdoms strongest warriors, you would have think Hachiman would be knocked down with one blow, WRONG, Hachiman manage to go toe to toe in Direct Combat with Zhao Yun using nothing more than than his sheer combat skill, and fight him to a DRAW, talk about Unreliable Narrator, note this has been Fore Shadowed by his high position, you don't became a general in Three Kingdoms Era by being weak, and the fact he once mention being trained by Guan Yu, the man known as God of War.
