What happens if the Battle for Mewni ended differently? What happens if magic wasn't restored and Toffee won? What are the consequences that will befall on Mewni?

Monsters, Mewmans, Magic is a Star vs. the Forces of Evil fanfic by TBlofeld, that takes place in an alternate scenario after the events of the Battle of Mewni in which Toffee succeeds in his plans to wipe out magic in Mewni and the devastating consequences Mewni has to face as they enter a new era without magic. As this is an alternate interpretation of Season 3 and 4 of the series, expect some spoilers.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: The story is not only a reimagining of Season 3 and 4 of the series, but also expands on setting, concepts and lore in addition to focusing on several characters who weren't thoroughly explored in the series such as Mina Loveberry and Toffee.
  • Angst Coma: After realizing he had been a pawn in Toffee's schemes again and not even considered important by the lizard, Ludo falls into an unresponsive state as he refuses to speak or move and barely eats even as he's arrested for his part in Toffee's plans.
  • Ascended Fridge Horror: This story explores on what would happen if magic was destroyed. Unlike the canonical ending of the series, it shows that the destruction of magic will lead to many problems; Mewni is in chaos and disarray with the lack of magic on top of being woefully unprepared against any monster uprising. Globgor's rampage shows how outmatched the Mewman knights are against the Size-Shifter when he storms into Butterfly Castle and Marco was only saved when Mina regains her Solarian form because of the slow return of magic.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Chapter 1-7 "Sleeping Beauty" focuses on Moon meeting Eclipsa —who escaped from her Crystal Prison due to the lack of magic— and trying to keep her escape a secret in order to avoid even more chaos.
    • The Spades Chapter "Tainted" focuses on Eclipsa and Globgor as the two reunite with each other.
    • Chapter 1-16 "Delirium" focuses on Toffee and his whereabouts after succeeding in his plans in destroying magic.
    • The Heart Chapter "Minuit A Fond La Caisse" focuses on Star and showing how magic is slowly returning after she accepts to take over Glossaryck's role as the next avatar of magic.
    • Chapter 2-1 "Good Friends" largely focuses on Mina, giving insight into her past and her professional friendship with Renee.
  • Can't Stay Normal: Though he's good at hiding it and keeping it in check, Toffee is someone who's so used to planning, scheming and fighting for centuries non-stop that he has ignored the detrimental effects it has on his mental state, the mask begins to slowly break when he finds himself unable to psychologically adapt to the normalcy while in hiding.
  • Dark Fic: This story's overall tone is darker than the series, exploring the darker aspects of the series' lores and the ramifications of Toffee's plans.
  • Decapitated Army: Despite being manipulated by Toffee, Ludo is still arrested for aiding the lizard. His rat army — who he used magic to beat them into submission— disbands and abandons him without hesitation.
  • Deity of Human Origin: While not human, Glossaryck is revealed to have been a mortal monster who gained his powers when he was struck by a meteor made of magic. He fabricated the story that he was made by magic and is the oldest being in the universe to hide his origins.
    • Eventually, Star qualifies as well once she succeeds Glossaryck as the embodiment of magic.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: It's revealed that the MHC were able to locate Eclipsa residing in the Monster Temple when she eloped with Globgor because they were given the information by a mysterious informant. It's all but implied that the informant was someone Eclipsa knew.
  • Fix Fic: The author has noted their dissatisfaction with the direction Season 3 and 4 took, and the story is intended to amend that by exploring aspects the series never focused on.
  • From Bad to Worse: The aftermath of the Battle of Mewni shows how dependent the kingdoms are with magic and with magic gone, problems start to arise such as the increase of crops being ravaged by monsters and losing their abilities that helps them navigate through their environment. Also, after the destruction of magic, many characters suspect Toffee might be planning something big. Turns out he's laying low in a hidden monster village until the dust settles down.
  • Hidden Monster Village: The town Acheron is a hidden monster town built within the in the depths of the Forest of Probable Itchiness since Mewmans dared not to explore the forest thoroughly due to the hornets that infest the forest, making it a good hideout. The only reason the town isn't bothered by the hornets is due to the smoke surrounding it that repels the hornets away. The town serves as a shelter for those monsters who are wanted by the Mewmans, with Toffee being one of those monsters.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite Toffee being alive in this story, Eclipsa manages to break free from her crystal prison as they've melted from the lack of magic, thus voiding the contract she made with Moon.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Toffee suffers from this after his initial victory against the Butterflies. Succeeding in his lifetime goal of eradicating magic from Mewni has left him pondering what to do next now that he has no reason to fight anymore. He's used to planning and fighting for centuries that doing anything normal is completely alien to him and the consequences of constantly being overworked starts taking its toll on his mental state.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The fic gives Toffee the last name Alastor.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The Heart Chapter "Protostar" features events from some previous chapters from Star's perspective, showing that certain events that were previously unexplained (like Eclipsa's cell door seemingly opening by itself) were the results of Star's actions.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Due to succeeding in his plans and Star trapped in the Realm of Magic, Toffee avoids his fate of being blasted by Star with magic and manages to escape after the events of Battle for Mewni.
  • Take Up My Sword: "Minuit A Fond La Caisse" reveals that with magic dying, Glossaryck's dying with it. The only way to save Star from following him to death is make her his successor; the new embodiment of magic. Though hesitant at first, Star comes to accept the responsibility after some words of encouragement from Glossaryck.
  • Villain Episode: Chapter 1-16 "Delirium" is focused entirely on Toffee. It centers on his whereabouts after succeeding in his plans and the consequences he himself has to deal with his success.
