Fanfic / Money, Love, and Corporate Espionage

Go To

Money, Love, and Corporate Espionage is a story set in a Cyberpunk-styled AU of The Owl House, set 100 years after Earth and the Boiling Isles were somehow merged together. Luz, an aspiring runner, ends up drafted to the payroll of Amity, a young corporate executive, as a bodyguard. Neither is fully happy with the arrangement at first, but over times things change...

  • Adaptational Badass: Luz in this AU has numerous cybernetic enhancements in addition to her glyphs, including a Blade Below the Shoulder set that she can use said glyphs to boost.
  • Batman Gambit: Belos stages an incident to get people to buy his cybernetics, which are infected with the Collector virus that causes cyberpsychos.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: One of Luz's primary cybernetic enhancements is a set of blades hidden in her forearms with glyphs on them.
  • Crapsack World: In typical cyberpunk-style fashion the environment has been devastated, with large wastelands outside of the cities (Luz noting that the forest outside of Platinum City is likely the last remaining natural forest on the planet, and wood is extremely expensive), and mega-corporations and criminal gangs run rampant.
  • Everyone Can See It: When Amity mentions that she and Luz kissed, the biggest surprise among Eda and company is that they weren't already in a relationship.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: Surprisingly for a cyberpunk setting, Amity at least tries to be this. At the very least she's a massive improvement compared to Odalia.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Willow promises Amity that Luz has a lot of friends, and that if Amity hurts her she'll have them coming to break Amity in retaliation, Willow included.
  • Merged Reality: The backstory of this AU is that something caused Earth and the Boiling Isles to merge 100 years prior to the start of the story.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Plant magic has fallen out of favor because the pollution is so bad that without a plant magic user is actively sustaining them, conjured plants start dying almost immediately.
  • Science Fantasy: In addition to the magic that witches and demons can use, there are Cyberpunk-style augmentations and advanced technology all over the place.
  • Unequal Rites: The environmental damage is so bad that plant magic is unable to keep a plant alive after the spell is cast, causing it to fall out of favor.
