Fanfic / Luke And Apollo Wright

Go To

Luke and Apollo Wright is a Ace Attorny/Professor Layton Crossover fic, set after the events of Unwound Future, when Luke Triton and his parents head to America, where his father had gotten a new job. However, things don't exactly go according to plan for the Triton's when they end up in a car crash, with Luke being the only one found at the scene and the police presume that both his parents are dead.

Thankfully, Professor Layton manages to call Phoenix Wright, recently disbarred defense attorney and father to adopted daughter Trucy, to help find Luke after not being able to get in contact with The Tritons since leaving England. And so after some searching, he manages to find Luke again and decides to adopt him, in aid to help Luke find out what happened to his parents. Then during a planned picnic with Phoenix and Trucy, Luke ends up bringing along one of the new friends he's made at school.

A fifteen year old boy with a very loud voice, and a very familiar bracelet.

Luke and Apollo Wright provides examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: In the final part of Turnabout Classroom it's revealed that the murderer is Severin Keil, who killed fellow teacher Rosa Rains in a scuffle when he tried to throw her research plants out the window.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The history of the Gramarye troupe, and Thalassa's parents, and her relationship with Apollo's father is greatly expanded on here:
    • The original founders were Magnifi (real name, Winfred Grammar) and his childhood friend, Varlous (real name, Magnus Geary) who after starting the troupe traveled all over Europe before they ended up meeting Gaia, a "hippie" from Borginia, who became part of the troupe. Over time both the men fell in love with Gaia, but because Gaia believed in free love she also loved them both equally, which though didn't sat well with Magnifi, he went along with for it for the sake of his friendship with Magnus. Then when Gaia become pregnant with Thalassa, she didn't care who the father was and that she, Magnifi and Magnus were equally Thalassa's parents. Then when she was around two years old, gaia was diagnosed with cancer and due to her illness stayed in her hometown, along with Magnus who while looking after her, made props and set-pieces for the troupes shows, then sent them to Magnifi. Then when Thalassa was around five, not only did it become evident that Magnifi was her actual father, but Gaia died, and so Magnus and Magnifi friendship completely deuterated.
    • Years later while in the troupe were in Borginia, Thalassa had her accident which caused her to not only be blind, but have short term memory loss. Magnifi had Magnus look after her during this time and eventually, after getting her short term memory back, Magnus sent her up as a singer at a restaurant, and thus, started her career as Lamiroir. Magnifi and Magnus agreed that in her state she should start a new life for herself, and if she was to ever recover her old memories again, they'd come get her.
  • Always Someone Better: Apollo see's Luke as this from time to time, even wondering why Luke didn't become a attorney instead of him.
  • Ascended Extra: In canon, Clay Terran was only ever seen in flashback, here though, he appears very early on, when Luke meets both him and Apollo on his first day of school, and continually shows up throughout the fic.
  • Backstory: About a hundred and eighty-two chapters of this four-hundred and ninety-one fanfic sever as a backstory that goes over the six years leading to the events of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, from Luke being orphaned and then adopted by Phoenix, to when Zak Gramarye shows up again.
  • Band of Brothers: Downplayed, with Luke, Apollo and Clay. Though the three have never been through any battles, when Luke meets the latter two at his new school, the three become fast friends due to each having one of their parents. For Clay his mother, for Apollo his father, and for Luke his father.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Do not insult anyone of The Wright family, because Luke will really lay into, as Klavier found out when he insulted Phoenix to Apollo and Luke, while in court.
  • Boarding School: Downplayed with Sirius Turner Boarding School for Boys. When Luke first attends there, Apollo tells him the school opened up to local children a few years previously due to the school not getting as many dormers.
  • Brother–Sister Team: After they learn their are both actually related to each other, Trucy encourages Apollo to join her in the magic act she performs, and eventually they form the duo of Apollo and Artemis Gramarye.
  • Character Development: After being present in trial against Sebastian De Beste, of whom Kristoph did not speak well of, and knowing what Kristoph said wasn't telling the full truth, Apollo asks Edgeworth about it, and he explains what he left out. After the events of Ace Attorney Investigations 2 Sebastian stopped being a prosecutor and went back to Themis Legal Academy to retake all his classes and exams, so he felt like he had truly earned his prosecutors badge on his own merit.
  • Continuity Nod: Several.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Implied and downplayed with Flora. During day 2 of the Turnabout Serenade, When Luke, Apollo, Trucy, Flora and Alfendi find Desmond talking with their prime suspect, Flora starts talking with them in perfectly normal manner which raises a few eyebrows. It isn't until the suspect leaves that it turns out that, like Desmond she was just playing along, even trying to see if she could get the suspect to let slip something incriminating. Which when Luke says she's picking up Descole'snote  tricks, she says:
"How else am I supposed to keep up with the Professor on an investigation?" Flora asked with a knowing wink.
  • A Death in the Limelight: Happens twice. Through letters we learn that Bruno becomes ill and dies due to his advancing age, and Dude Eldoon from a heart attack, whose death the Wright's takes very hard since though they weren't close, he was always present in their lives.
  • Dying Clue: Zigzagged. When they were taken from the crash it was Luke's father, Clark, who was killed, while it was Luke's mum Brenda, who is still alive, who left behind the clue of a bracelet.
  • Fauxreigner: Klavier Gavin in this fic is presented as not actually German. It's just a accent he puts on, and his German is outdated, and when Luke is informed that he couldn't be note , he can't help but make jokes about during the trial of Wocky Kitaki. Then the night after the trial of Machi Tobaye, when Apollo and Trucy are performing their show at the Wunderbar, Klavier is there and naturally Apollo gets him on stage and when asked for his name, he reveals it to be Konrad. At this, Luke starts laughing. Then after their performance, Klavier meets the bars owner, who is fluent, needless to say the situation is rather embarrassing for him.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: In Chapter 19, while visiting the Cosmo Space Centre with Apollo and Clay, Athena Cykes happens to overhear their conversation about the Greek gods Apollo and Athena, which Luke notices. Jump to Chapter 75 when the two briefly meet again after Phoenix has just solved a case, though they don't really remember each other. Then later, in Chapter 135 when Luke and Athena meet again while both are attending Gressenheller University, the latter on her first day, after the two have a conversation about the same subject she overheard years ago, the two end up realizing they've met before.
  • Happily Adopted: Trucy, Luke and Apollo are this, by Phoenix. Then later Machi, though Phoenix is only is guardian, but Machi see's him as much as a parent as he does Thalassa, who later does legally adopt Machi.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Due to not only the fact that Phoenix adopts Luke, and ends up meeting Apollo because Luke and him became friends while attending the same school, several things happen because of this:
    • Realizing that Apollo must be Trucy's half brother, he decides to adopt Apollo so he can reunite the two siblings.
    • Trucy and Apollo actually find out their siblings, and years before they'd actually meet in canon.
    • This results in Trucy getting Apollo to become a magician as well and they take on the stage personas of "Apollo and Artemis Gramarye"
    • Due to the change in their relationship, Apollo becomes a mole for Phoenix while working at Kristoph Gavin's Law Office.
    • Due to Luke's history with helping solves mysteries, and his ability to talk to animals, he's very helpful in investigating and assisting Apollo in court.
    • When meeting Lamiroir in person for the first time they have the knowledge that their mother had two identical bracelets. So when they see Lamiroir has the identical one to Apollo, they figure out who she is
    • Though Apollo meets Valant the same time he does in canon, here when introduced to Valant as Trucy's brother, he does let it slip he knows who Lamiroir really is.
  • I Have Many Names: An odd example. Luke Triton never legally changed his last name to Wright after being adopted by Phoenix, but does go by Luke Wright, and as a veterinarian goes by Dr "Northpaw" Wright.
  • Implied Love Interest: Clay and Flora Reinhold are implied to have a romantic interest in each other after the second time she comes to LA to see The Wrights.
  • I Know You're Watching Me: For years Emmy has been keeping tabs on how The Professor is doing, and visits Gressenheller a few weeks of the years whenever she's in London. The Professor was obviously aware of this, having seen her in the backrows of his lectures.
  • Ironic Nickname: It's a tradition at Warren Street Animal Shelter, that anyone who works there are given a animal associated nickname, that also has something to do with their own name. Luke is the odd one really since unlike everyone else (like Vixen Bagley aka Fox, Drake Gagnon aka Duck and Tiger Vadas aka Kitty, for example) he doesn't have an animal associated first or last name, but since his last name is Wright and he's right handed, he given the nickname "Northpaw".
  • Karma Houdini: Leo Gatti, aka "Simba", gets away with killing her employer Phelan Pound, and even though Apollo has figured out she was the killer, he had to stay silent for the timing being, considering Kristoph is partly responsible for that.
  • Let Me Tell You a Story: The day after Machi is falsely arrested, Klavier comes round to the Wright Anything Agency to tell Apollo he's been hired as Machi's attorney, though before he can do this, Luke calls him out for arresting Machi in the first place since it makes no sense, yells at Klavier for believing he could trust him despite their family history and storms off to his old room. Desmond Sycamore then goes to talks to him, telling him the story of how he took on the persona of Jean Descole, worried that Luke may stop trusting other people, which is something Desmond regrets doing in the past.
  • My Greatest Failure: When Magnifi is channeled by Maya, Thalassa he admits he regrets a number of things, which include his treatment of his childhood friend Magnus, him pushing to forget moving on from Jove and Apollo after the formers death and the latter's presumed one, and his suicide plan, which led to Zak been falsely arrested and going on the run.
  • Parental Abandonment: Felt very much abandoned by Dhurke, who was a father to him until he was sent to live in Los Angeles as child and Dhurke cut off contact with him. It isn't until he talks to his channeled birthfather Jove, that he realizes that it was very much justifiednote .
  • Peek-a-Boo Corpse: In Turnabout Classroom the victim is found when someone hears a noise coming from a cupboard in a classroom, and when they open the cupboard the body falls out.
  • Sarcastic Confession: Justified. During the first day of the Turnabout Corner trial, Luke has to testify what some birds saw on the night of the murder as his own testimonynote  and Klavier suggests that its either a lie, or that Luke could have been the shooter himself. This, for the second time during the trial, really sets Luke off and does this. As Trucy puts it:
"Oooh, clever!" Trucy whispered to Apollo. "Telling the truth as a hypothetical scenario! I didn't think of that!"
  • The Runaway: During Maya's channeling session of Jove Justice, they reveal that they ran away from home as a teenager because they had a abusive alcoholic father.
  • Team Mom: Ms Kindly, whose in charge of the dorms at Sirius Turner Boarding School is this for the students, and gets emotional at the end of every school year when a class graduates.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Flora Reinhold, has come far from the damsel in distress she was in canon in this fic. At one point she attempts to sweet talks a murder suspect, which almost seems to work, so they'll let something slip.
  • True Companions: Apollo and Clay. Though they become bestfriends with Luke and vise versa, the former two have been friends for years, and even end up moving in together.
