Lodestar is a completed Worm/X-Men crossover fanfic by ShayneT. It can be found on SpaceBattles, Fanfiction.net, and Archive of Our Own.

Taylor Hebert is the grandchild of Magneto, a villain from another world. She has inherited his powers. Is the world prepared for a mistress of magnetism?

Tropes:

  • And Then What?: After Scion's defeat, Taylor believes that Cauldron was so focused on preventing him from destroying humanity that they never thought of what would happen after he was beaten. She's got a few ideas, like helping Case 53s and preparing in case another of Scion's species appears.
  • And the Adventure Continues: Scion is defeated at the hands of Galactus. Taylor, Magneto, and others have plans to rebuild their world and continue humanity's progress in the future. These include Magneto wanting to expand human's reach across the stars through reverse-engineered alien technology obtained from his universe.
  • Apocalypse How: Magneto's Earth underwent the same Bad Future as Days of Future Past but worse, as the Sentinels completely wiped out life in it.
  • Batman Gambit: Taylor thinks that Magneto might have wanted the PRT to raid the lab and take the mutant virus before it was finished, so he could blame them when it was released to the larger population.
    • Later, he lures Scion to his old world so that his fight with the Sentinels will distract him long enough to scavenge parts from Reed Richard's lab and find Mjolnir a new bearer.
  • Body Backup Drive: Magento (while possessing Taylor's body) and Panacea creates a clone body for the former.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Most of Taylor's fights. Most especially against enemies who uses metal-based powers such as Kaiser, who was instantly crushed like a tin can.
  • Familial Body Snatcher: Magneto took over Taylor's body (without her knowledge or permission) for a month until he moved his mind into a youthful, cloned body.
  • Godzilla Threshold: By chance Scion ends up in Magneto's original world. So what does Magneto do next? Call for Galactus.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Lung ends up becoming an ally of Taylor and Magneto, and a reformed super-villain and leading the ABB to help rebuild Brockton. However, not all ABB members are content with Lung's changes.
  • Mass Super-Empowering Event: The dying act of Valefor releases a virus based off of Magneto's DNA that turns thousands in Brockton Bay into Mutants.
  • Meaningful Name: Taylor's cape name references Polaris, a guiding star, as well as lodestone, a type of magnetic rock.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When taking out the Fallen, Taylor accidentally breaks the vial containing the virus that turns thousands into mutants.
    • A new villain is able to injure Scion, which causes the golden man to start the endgame years ahead of time. Why is this a hero's fault? Because he wasn't a parahuman: he was a mutant who got infected with the virus Magneto created and Taylor accidentally released.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: Magneto finds Mjolnir a new wielder, a Badass Normal who stood up to Leviathan to protect civilians.
  • Reformed Criminal: Magneto has stated that he has moved on from his mutant supremacy ideology and tries to do his best to help Earth-Bet. But Taylor is very skeptical that her grandfather is truly reformed.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: How is Scion finished off in the end? By a device Magneto made that summoned Galactus to consume what was left of Magneto's own world, with him trapped on it.
Magneto: "How do you kill an unstoppable bear? With a bigger unstoppable bear!"
  • Super-Empowering: A virus based off of Magneto's DNA grants mutant powers to those infected by it.
  • Superpower Lottery: Taylor inherited Magneto's power, enough said.
    • Danny triggers with Taylor's canon powers, but with the ability to control any animal in his range instead of just insects. With a major boost from two mutants that can boost telepathy (themselves boosted), not only is he capable of controlling every person (sans a protected Magneto and Taylor) on the planet to fight against Scion and evacuate the cities, he manages to control the Endbringers, though doing so apparently used up all the QA shard's energy.
  • Wham Line: Taylor finally learning that her body has been possessed by Magento for a month.
"I was trapped inside a body that wasn't my own."
    • Magento's plan on defeating Scion.
"Come Galactus! Feed to your hearts content!"
  • Wrong Context Magic: Mutant powers to parahumans. Mutant powers as a whole can manifest in many times the number of people parahuman powers can, do not all have automatically useful powers 'if' they get powers at all, and have the potential to be far, far more powerful than even the top tier parahumans with Alpha and Omega level mutants having powers that just don't exist in the Worm setting such as telepathy and reality manipulation.
