‘’Life Could Be Beautiful’’ Contains examples of:
- Adaptational Jerkass: Akamatsu and Momota… Kind Of. Akamatsu just decided to be more like her pre-game self, and Momota is nice to everyone except Ouma. Their in-game selves didn’t change, though.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Shinguji, Harukawa, and Ouma… kind of. Their in-game selves didn’t change at all, but… safe to say their post-game selves regret what they did… a lot.
- All Just a Dream: Kind of? This work takes place after Danganronpa V3, with all the events of the game having taken place in a neo-world-program-esque simulation.
- The Atoner: Seems to be Shinguji.
- Barbaric Bully: Gonta was apparently one prior to the killing game. He's rather understandably horrified when one of his old friends tells him how excited he was to see him kill people.
- Benevolent A.I.: Kiibo turns out to be one, even explicitly compared to Alter Ego from the first game.
- Beyond Redemption: Shirogane seems to think she is.
- Additionally, Momota seems to think this about Ouma.
- Break the Cutie: Chapter 6, Angie’s chapter. She is revealed to be insecure about who she was in the killing game, runs away from her current home, befriends a roach which soon dies, loses all hope, and almost dies. At least at the end she resolves to have Hope.
- Brother–Sister Incest: Subverted. Turns out in the "real" world, Shinguji doesn't even have a sister. He is, quite justifiably, disgusted with the way he was depicted in the killing game as a result.
- Claustrophobia: Ouma seems to have developed this.
- Crazy Cat Man: Hoshi definitely qualifies.
- The Cutie: Angie acts very happy-go-lucky, has a sweet tooth, is nice to animals, and really wants a good hobby.
- Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Angie, sort of.
- Dynamic Character: Pretty much everyone.
- Friend to All Living Things: Angie seems to be.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: A rather dark take on this trope with Amami — after getting his memory wiped through so many killing games, something in his mind just… broke. Now he remembers nothing about his identity prior to the killing games, and it's implied that he may never be able to get those memories back. He couldn't even recognize his own father when he saw him.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Hm… Shinguji, Tojo, Probably Ouma, seemingly Shirogane… basically all the characters who did something bad during the killing game.
- Nervous Wreck: Ouma seems to have turned into one.
- Once Done, Never Forgotten: Ouma’s actions in the past. He seems to be kind of separate from the others.
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: A lot of the fanfic works off of this.
- Rounded Character: Basically all of the V3 participants.
- Sympathetic Murder Backstory: Technically. Shirogane, Tojo, Shinguji… basically, a whole lot of the characters have this. They’ve survived a digital killing game, after all.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist: Angie seems to be one.
- Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Gonta is horrified when one of his old delinquent friends tells him that he was proud of him for killing Iruma.
