Fanfic / Leave Her Johnny

Go To

Leave Her Johnny is a KanColle Self-Insert Fanfic by Ace of Aces.

Awakening one day to find himself floating on the ocean and turned into a girl, and a ship girl at that, our hero is promptly forced to try and survive, while also (hopefully) finding civilization again (along with other kanmusu).

It has since been rebooted Leave Her Johnny refloated.

Tropes found in this fanfiction:

  • Action Survivor: Izumi spends roughly eight sections of the story as this, due to a lack of training, supplies, and general fear. She grows out of this after reaching Japan, becoming a definite Action Girl.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Goto when a wasp lands on his hand. Predictably, the insect ignores him.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Well, sorta. Izumi ends up managing to hijack one of the Abyssal Destroyers, who she ends up keeping as a pet of sorts. It should be noted that 'Boat doggo', as Izumi decides to name her, is probably just as intelligent as Izumi is (she does have a crew of her own, though they appear to be some kind of monster).
  • Ascended Extra: Done twice over. The Ship Fairies get a much larger role in this story than they do in canon. This also applies between versions of the story, with the original version having Izumi’s interactions with crew being short and sporadic, while the reboot has her directly working alongside them from the very beginning.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Nagato's reaction when Izumi explains how she got Boat Doggo.
    Nagato: You WHAT?!!
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Despite the immense durability of Kanmusu, Izumi ends up concussed after a large explosion occurs nearby her. She is not able to walk this off and has to spend some time off duty because of it.
  • Gender Bender: Izumi suffered this, as she was a boy before being dropped into the Kancolle universe.
  • Irony: Despite being capable of cruising over the ocean with ease, most if not all of the non-submarine ship girls cannot swim. Izumi is not pleased to learn this.
  • Mundane Solution: How does Izumi capture an Abyssal? Have her crew board it. Overlaps with Beyond the Impossible, ironically enough, since nobody actually thought that was possible, and even Izumi wasn't sure it would work.
  • No Name Given: Our heroine, initially, has no idea what ship she is. It's eventually revealed she is Battleship Number Thirteen, and after she reaches the Japanese Kanmusu base, she decides to take on the name Izumi.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: A hoard of wasps attacks Des Div 6 in 12.4, which leads to Izumi and Ise hosing the girls down, quite literally at that. Admiral Goto ends up finding his hand on the receiving end of one of their stingers.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Apparently, all ship girls who are not submarines have this. Izumi does not take this well, and asks Goto if she can teach the rest of the Kanmusu how to swim.
  • Tired of Running: In Refloated, after being endlessly pursued and attacked by Abyssals and reaching a Despair Event Horizon, Izumi gains a chillingly calm acceptance of her seemingly inevitable death and decides to make a stand in order to take down as many Abyssals as she can before she goes.
