Fanfic / Is It Wrong To Try To Stay The Farthest Away From The Dungeon

Go To

One day, the news spread like wildfire. "The Black Dragon is dead," they said. "The strongest Monster has been killed," they cheered. Yet, no one knew how it happened, nor who did the deed. At the same time, weird phenomena began happening in the Dungeon, plunging Orario into alarm. But that has nothing to do with the boy who's recently started to work at a certain Tavern... right?

Is it Wrong to Try to Stay the Farthest Away from the Dungeon? is a Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? fanfic where the author decided to play around with a what-if scenario of what happens when the Black Dragon is killed by someone other than Bell Cranel and most importantly, Aiz Wallenstein?

An unorthodox take, where the protagonist is an OC named Arien who kills the Black Dragon. The point of the fic is show what consequences that action has for the protagonists while also showing off the OC's backstory and his effect on other characters.

Do note that Gavius is not the author of the fic, but merely posts the chapters on fanfic.net by the request of another person.

Since the plot of the fic is put between the end of Volume 11 and the beginning of Volume 12, spoilers ahead. So read at your own peril!

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Dark Secret: Arien has few of them. First, being his history as the Faceless, who fought against Evilus seven years ago. Next one being that he is the slayer of the dangerous One-Eyed Black Dragon which he doesn't want to be revealed because he wants to spite his mother's wish for a hero. Lastly, the fact that he is a Cranel so his cousin is safe from the first secret.

  • Harem Genre: Averted. Word of God explicitly says in the first chapter that both OC and Bell will only have a single pairing.

  • Hate at First Sight: More like hate at first meeting, but Arien does not have a very... high opinion after meeting Syr and being forced into the Hostess of Fertility by her. Especially since his instinct is labelling her as the most dangerous thing he has ever met. Yes, this includes the One-Eyed Black Dragon he died fighting against.

  • Honor Before Reason: Arien is this somewhat. After being resurrected unwillingly, being forced from Riches to Rags and finding himself in the dungeon, he proceeds anyways to attempt to fulfil the promise he gave to Aria about delivering a message to Aiz even though it comes at a huge risk of all of his Dark Secret(s) coming to light.

  • I Have No Son!: This is a firm stance Alfia takes with Arien since she most certainly never wanted him. Which leads to You're Not My Mother attitude below.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: You have to dig very deeply, but beneath all that unpleasantness you get very likely at first meeting from Arien, there is a good person who (sometimes) knows who can be trusted and who doesn't deserve his harshness. And even after all mishaps, Aria's resurrection got him through and hate he feels for her for losing most of his belongings and ending up in a DUNGEON of all places, he decides to fulfil the promise he gave her even though it comes at a huge risk of his Dark Secret being revealed.

  • Outside-Context Problem: Arien. Due to being a demi-god, no god is capable of seeing whether or not he is speaking the truth, which baffles Ouranos who believed that is because of the mask he used to wear all the time as during his time in Ouranos as the Faceless. Not only that, but he could beat a One-Eyed Black Dragon without even HAVING A FALNA.

  • Red Baron: Arien, as the Faceless.

  • Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond: Syr once she realizes Arien wants nothing to do with her.

  • Spider-Sense: Arien has one, allowing him to feel out the danger of anyone near him. When he meets with Syr it literally goes haywire more than ever in his life which makes him fear her and wants to stay as far as he can from her.

  • Strong and Skilled: Arien. Makes sense since he murdered the Black Dragon. Of course he would be considered power wise at least a Level 7.

  • The Promise: Not by his will, mind you, but after being saved by Aria he feels compelled to bring a message to Aiz that she will be back soon.

  • Unluckily Lucky: Arien, big time. Not only does he somehow finds himself in the very first city Black Dragon attacks, he gets very lucky and manages to kill it at the cost of his life only to be saved Aria, Aiz's mom who heals him and teleports him STRAIGHT INTO ORARIA'S DUNGEON of all places, but still lucky enough to be teleported exactly onto the 27th floor where the Xenos are hidden and find him. Also while contemplating whether or not to leave him, it just so happens that Viene is with them and asks them to save him to his resemblance with Bell. But he also loses all of his money and supplies he had because of said teleportation, leaving him piss poor with only his sword, clothes and his mask, forcing him to dungeon for crystals to go back to being rich.

  • You're Not My Mother: As far as Arien is concerned, Meteria is the only woman who deserves to be called his mother. Alfia, the 'evil witch', his biological mother, can go eat shit.
