aka: Inferno

Go To

Inferno is a Percy Jackson and the Olympians fanfic by Mahalidael.

A year after the events of Blood of Olympus, Leo stumbles into one of his former foster parents, a pastor named Father Abraham. Problems arise when it turns out Abraham is still Leo's legal guardian, enabling him to put Leo back into Christian reform camp.

What Abraham isn't expecting is for one Nico di Angelo to have grown rather fond of Leo over that year, and willing to fight Heaven and Hell to protect both him and Camp Half-Blood.

Perhaps literally.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Ascended Extra: Inferno makes heavy use of this.
    • Teresa is probably the most obvious example, getting only a passing mention in Heroes of Olympus as Leo's former abuser. Here, she's The Dragon to Abraham.
    • Canonically, Nancy Bobofit appears in the opening chapters of The Lightning Thief and nowhere else. In Inferno, she's shaping up to to be a major character.
    • Octavian, while far from an extra, was never that important in canon. That he appears in Camp Gilead despite being dead, however...
  • Boomerang Bigot: Ezra is adamant that all the demigods he's thus far met are simply demonically possessed, and that Greek gods don't exist. He doesn't take it well when he finds out he's a demigod.
  • Brainwashed: Camp Gilead being based off the Kids on Fire School of Ministry, this is a given.
  • Christian Rock: Ezra listens to this, though it's implied to be forbidden at Gilead, helping to characterize him beyond his indoctrination.
  • Culture Police: Occurs inside the walls of Camp Gilead, which enables Nancy to make a quick buck selling Viagra and Harry Potter paperbacks.
  • Meaningful Name: Father Abraham has many sons, and many sons have Father Abraham... unfortunately.
  • Only Sane Man: Leo and Nico are this to the rest of Camp Gilead. Also, Mary Ruth, before her death.
  • Religious Horror: Much of the tension in Inferno lies in the very real possibility of God existing. And considering that a large part of Christianity hinges on the existence of no other gods...
  • There Are No Coincidences: Leo being taken back to Gilead, Octavian being alive, and a bomb going off in Camp Half-Blood are all bad things on their own, but the fact that they occur rapid-fire within the span of a few weeks is suspicious.
  • War Is Glorious: Abraham promotes war on nonbelievers, and judging by the fact that he has a gun shed, it's unlikely that he means spiritual warfare.
