Fanfic / I'm who now?

Go To

Being dropped into the killing game is always a dangerous place to be as a student of Hope's Peak, not knowing what will happen or who will kill whom. But what happens when the one in charge has a change of heart? Or rather, has the mind of someone else entirely who will stop at nothing to save everyone they can. Even if it dives them to Despair.

An SI being dropped into Danganronpa and becoming Junko.

I'm who now?

This work contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Junko by virtue of being an SI. Journal entries from Matsuda show that Junko started acting friendlier and more genuine following the brain implants.
    • She helps out Chihiro in working out and being a Secret Keeper for his gender.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: The Lil Ultimates appear over a video call to speak with Junko long before the events of Ultra Despair Girls. More worringly Kurokuma shows up before Monokuma came to life after Junko's death in canon.
  • A Shared Suffering: What Junko does with the motives to get people to bond more. It has mixed success.
    • Showing a video of Despair Lifeline Hotel where everybody's hostage is shown alive.
    • Including along with an embarassing and a dark secret, they also got to read somebody else's secret withour knowing whose it is.
  • Contrived Coincidence: How one of the people in Case 1 are figured out: Leon's method of disposing the evidence, knowledge of the nurse office, desire for a music career and having spent time with Sayaka, and suggesting that Sayaka injured herself makes it apparent to Kyoko that he was involved due to so many of them occurring.
  • Crash-Into Hello: The SI meets Junko this way. From a high velocity impact.
    • How Hiro ends up stabbed by Sayaka while she's running from Leon.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The original Junko realized she may lose her original self soon and set up contingencies to ensure the Killing Game could be carried out even with the SI now in control.
  • Enemy Within: The original Junko's presence seems to still be there and speaks to the SI with upside down text while sending him nightmares. Even more terrifying it can cause him to black out and take control while showing personality traits different from her original self and more in line with the SI.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Matsuda after he learns what the Lil Ultimates parents have done to them.
    • The secret that Kirigiri saw was apparently horrifying to even her.
  • Family of Choice: Junko is planning on adopting the Lil Ultimates soon and was working on fixing their problems even before the tragedy.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Due to the SI's actions
    • Chapter 1: Makoto fails to mention how his door locks leading to Sayaka stabbing herself, escaping the room, and then accidently stabbing Hiro. SI Junko has Leon help her patch them up in the infirmary which is unlocked early. The SI only impales Mukuro with one spear before trying to use the rest which allows Makoto and Leon to save her. Sayaka is voted as the blackened, but is spared due to the different rules.
    • Chapter 2: Mondo doesn't kill Chihiro due to constantly being reminded of how he lashes out over his complex. Chihiro accidentally hits his head while falling into the pool due to Mondo and Taka arguing. Taka takes the role of the blackened due to nobody being able to identify or vote for the masked person(SI Junko), but survives. Original Junko's personality reveals the presence of a sixteenth student and puts a hit on them.
  • Loophole Abuse: Junko has to use this to get around the rules she set up without getting everyone killed.
  • Omake: A couple with the SI being a different character (Mondo and Toko), some of the shennanigans she got up to before the Killing Game, and some offscreen moments of awesome during the Killing Game.
  • Sadistic Choice: Makoto finds himself subjected to one, to save Junko (Mukuro) by sacrificing his lifeline (Komaru) or allowing Mukuro to be punished. Kirigiri gives up her lifeline in his place.
  • Secret-Keeper: Genocide Jill is this for the SI she calls Kuro.
  • Shout-Out: Khaos Omega at least believes there's one to Super Android 13 Abridged with how the Crash-Into Hello between Junko and the SI happened.
SI: SOMEONE STUPID GET IN MY WAY!
Khaos' comment: Based on what happened to Junko, catching that SI hurtling toward her at terminal velocity really fucked her shit up.
  • Tempting Fate: Leon thinks nobody's secret could be worse than his. He learns about when Mukuro (not named) massacred an entire school.
  • The Power of Friendship: What keeps Genocide Jill from killing Chihiro.
  • Trademark: Monokuma's vital monitors: 'Mono-lifeline' Patten Pending. The SI tells Class 78 that they will explode their hostage if their vital signs cease.
