I Grieve is a crossover between Star Wars and RWBY by Kaiser5578 on Wattpad.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there lived a Kaleesh warrior named Qymaen jai Sheelal, a great warrior who defended his world against its attackers. He paid a grave price for his world, lost his dearest friend, lost his humanity, and even his body, but what if he were to appear in Remnant and meet a certain few huntresses and hunters? Can they help the general move on from his past and find happiness? Or are their efforts doomed to fail?

I Grieve provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Team RWBY receive training in lightsaber combat and the Force from Obi-Wan, Aayla, and Ahsoka.
    • Grievous unlocks his latent potential for the Force after the Son and Daughter pay him a visit in his dreams.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Oobleck is not as friendly towards RWBY as in canon thanks to Grievous' arrival shaking up everything Remnant knew about history and even mocks them for using lightsabers instead of their usual Mix-and-Match Weapons.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Grievous is far nicer towards others even considering how much of his characterization is drawn from his Legends incarnation, being able to hold perfectly civil conversations without threatening anyone every few seconds and rediscovering the empathy and honor he once had before he became the droid general of the Separatists.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Ruby and Weiss while the same applies to Yang and Blake.
  • Aliens of London: Ruby notes that Aayla somehow has a French accent to her speech despite being an alien foreign to Remnant.
  • Berserk Button: Grievous has three of these so far:
    • Referring to him as a machine in general is a surefire way to earn his ire, as Ozpin finds out in the second chapter of the fic.
    • He also hates gross inefficiency and mismanagement thanks to his experiences with the Separatists, which leads Grievous to restructure Vale's military from the ground up to make it into an competent fighting force.
    • Insulting Ronderu is a very bad idea if one wants to survive against him considering how much he cherishes the memory of his dead lover. Dooku barely avoids getting himself killed by Grievous when they fight against each other because he dared to besmirch Ronderu's memory.
  • Blood Knight: Grievous relishes the chance to prove himself in combat and most notably exhorts his live combat students to attack him all at once instead of going at him one at a time.
  • Bullying a Dragon: The huntsmen-in-training at Beacon start calling Grievous a robot and make all sorts of demeaning comments towards him when Ruby first brings him into Beacon Academy to find medical aid for the cybernetic general. Had it not been for Ruby reminding Grievous of the purpose of him visiting Beacon and Glynda arriving in time to defuse the situation, Grievous would have attacked them on the spot.
  • Character Development: Grievous grows to care for Team RWBY and Remnant and even refuses Dooku's offer to return to the Separatists when they confront each other.
  • Cool Old Guy: Ki-Ai Mundi is Ruby's mentor in the ways of the Force and treats her like a granddaughter of sorts.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Grievous handily owns most of Beacon's students in his live combat class thanks to his vast knowledge of hand-to-hand and ranged combat.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's no surprise Grievous has this considering his past as a Kaleesh freedom fighter who lost everything he ever cared about.
  • Defeating the Undefeatable: Pyrrha and Blake are the only two people who have managed to defeat Grievous in his live combat class, with Pyrrha immobilizing Grievous with her magnetism Semblance and Blake slicing off his hand while he's occupied fighting against the other students.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Nora takes Grievous to a pancake bar after he decides to peace out of Jaune's bowling trip with the other guys from Beacon. Problem is, Grievous doesn't have a mouth to eat food with, causing no small amount of awkwardness as Grievous can only watch Nora eat her own serving of pancakes.
  • Dreaming of Times Gone By/Dreaming of Things to Come: Grievous receives glimpses into Remnant's ancient past and a vision of what is heavily implied to be the future selves of Team RWBY fighting against the Imperial invasion of Remnant led by Darth Vader.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Grievous is initially confused as to why he cannot sense the Force on Remnant ... before he realizes that since Semblances and Aura exist, then it means everyone on Remnant is technically Force-sensitive.
  • Fusion Fic: Of the "setting merge" variety, with a few examples below:
    • Grievous' dream reveals that the Son and the Daughter created the Gods of Light and Darkness responsible for creating and destroying Remnant.
    • Count Dooku's arrival on Remnant reveals that Remnen is merely in a very distant corner of the galaxy.
  • Heartbroken Badass: In Grievous' own words, the losses he suffered shaped him into The Dreaded Jedi killer and Separatist general that most know him as.
Grievous: I am who I am today because of them. I became the Jedi killer of legend because of them. I became the monster the clones of the Republic feared, the destroyer of their world and their kind, because of them. I became all of these things because I grieve.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: Grievous still retains his iconic cough thanks to the lubricant fluid from his cybernetics irritating his lungs.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When they first meet each other, Ozpin enrages Grievous by accidentally referring to him as a heavily armed droid.
  • Journey to Find Oneself: Grievous makes preparations for the journey to Utapau he must take to meet his destiny in fighting against evil
  • Large and in Charge: Grievous stands a towering 7'1 when he chooses to straighten his posture out of its usual hunch, allowing him to outstrip even Yatsuhashi in height.
  • One Last Job: Dooku allows Grievous to return to Remnant whenever he wants to in exchange for helping with the upcoming invasion of Coruscant.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Grievous states in his retelling of his past that the first thing he did after his conversion into a cyborg and inauguration as Supreme Commander of the of the Separatist army was to bomb Huk into oblivion and put a bounty on the head of any Yam'rii who survived. Considering how the Yam'rii were responsible for enslaving his people and never received any punishment for their atrocities, it's more of a long-overdue Karma Houdini Warranty for the bugs.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Pyrrha uses Obi-Wan's iconic "Hello there" line after she immobilizes Grievous.
    • Grievous uses All Might's "I am here" line as he lays out to Qrow, Winter, and Ironwood his plans to retake the territory Vale lost to the Grimm with the Vale military.
Winter: How could you plan such a thing so soon? It's insane, foolish, even! You're mad!
Grievous: Or so you believe. I have been bolstering the military with Mandalorian and Kaleesh battle strategies and fighting styles. I have E-5 blaster rifles in production to replace those pitiful excuses of guns they have been using, and I have been preparing a task force that will include a military force of roughly eight thousand soldiers, two hundred artillery units, one hundred Huntsmen, and myself at the forefront. And as we take each city, we will occupy it while new walls are constructed around the city and the land around it before we join them with the old walls. Repeat the same process with the other cities, and we will succeed in reclaiming all seven cities that have been lost to the Grimm.
Ironwood: How could you possibly believe that your way of doing things will make any difference compared to me or the one who came before you? I don't care who you are, that plan of yours is ignorant, and you're insane for thinking that it will work.
    Grievous: Because I am here.
    • Jaune, Sun, Neptune, and Yatsuhashi style themselves as the "Jaune Force" and utilize the ridiculous poses of the Ginyu Force in their attempt to convince Grievous to join them in their bowling trip.
  • So Proud of You: Dooku is pleased that Grievous has finally managed to prove himself the better warrior after his defeat and allows him to leave the Separatists after he helps them with their invasion of Coruscant.
  • Training from Hell: Grievous holds nothing back in his live combat class to ensure that his students are well and truly prepared for actual combat in any situation.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Considering how Grievous had been deliberately kept in the dark about the true circumstances behind the shuttle explosion that forced him to become the cyborg he is, his retelling of his past definitely comes with some inconsistencies and biases.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Grievous chooses to spare Dooku just as he's about to deliver the killing blow, proving that he's no longer the bloodthirsty general he once was before he arrived on Remnant.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The Grimm horde Grievous fights against after his crash-landing manages to give him trouble due to the damage the crash inflicted on his cybernetics, necessitating Ruby's timely arrival for him to flee with his life. Had he not received any damage from the crash, he would have easily butchered the Grimm attacking him.
  • The Worf Effect: A number of subterranean Grimm are seen running from something in the caves Team RWBY and their Jedi and clone trooper allies are exploring during their search for Kyber crystals to power their lightsabers with. Said something reveals itself to be a terentatek that proceeds to thrash Obi-Wan, Aayla, and Ruby before Blake, Weiss, and Bly finally defeat it by exposing its vulnerable upper left half of its belly for Weiss to stab it in its heart.
  • You Remind Me of X: A good amount of things in Remnant remind Grievous of his own experiences:
    • The oppression that the faunus go through and the White Fang's conflict against Remnant's established governments remind him of the enslavement of the Kaleesh by the Yam'rii and the campaigns Grievous led to free his people from Huk oppression.
    • Weiss initially reminds Grievous of the Intergalactic Banking Clan executives he used to work for along with Nute Gunray and Ziro the Hutt with her aristocratic mannerisms before he gets to know her better.
