This is an alternate universe series that took place after Steven Universe: Future 'Fragments'. Steven had shattered Jasper and was angry at everything and everyone. He spirals downward to the bottom. Now, old friends and new friends joined together to help Steven save himself. Unknown to Steven, his greatest ally lies within, literally.

This fic series provides examples of:
- Classy Cane: Steven started using a cane in Hope because Steven's lower spine and right leg isn't completely healed.
- Darker and Edgier: Yup, it's possible for this fic to be grittier than the canon series, to the point that Steven and several of the Gems actually curse out loud.
- Despair Event Horizon: Steven hits several of these in Change My Mind.
- Just like in canon, he hits the first one after he manages to bring Jasper back.
- When White Diamond refuses to mind-control him, he's barely talked down from lashing out any further by Spinel.
- After Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl bring him home, it doesn't get much better from there, either.
- Driven to Suicide: Steven decided to do that literally in Change My Mind by driving his car into a tree while his healing powers weren't working.
- Mental Health Recovery Arc: This is the series of Steven recovering from his trauma.
- Self-Harm: While Steven's desire to hurt himself was implied in Future (particularly in "Homeworld Bound"), this version of him actually follows through several times. It's not until after he injures his back and right leg from crashing his car that he finally recognizes how terribly it's been affecting himself and everyone around him.
