"Amano Arashi certainly has a lot on her plate. Trying to get into hero school, change the future for the better, and just generally improve the world, it's a lot of responsibility.

But what kind of dragon would she be if she backed down from a challenge?"

What do you get when you combine a standard Self-Insert and a crossover between My Hero Academia and Magic: The Gathering? You get Drakaina's Heart Of The Storm.

A young human from our world is reincarnated. On the world of Tarkir. As a Dragon. Before she even has time to wrap her mind around that, she's almost immediately killed again.

Or at least, that's what would've happened, had her utter refusal to die not caused her dormant Planeswalker Spark to ignite, hurtling her out of danger, and through the blind eternities, before crash landing in the Japan of My Hero Academia. All in all, a pretty hectic first day.

After unconsciously shapeshifting into a proper human form, she is taken in by the Pro-Hero Best Jeanist, and begins her training to become a Pro-Hero herself. Taking the name Amano Arashi, and passing off her natural abilities as a Kolaghan dragon as her quirk, she begins trying to use her knowledge of the events to come to shape things for the better.

Unfortunately for her, things aren't going to be that simple; Arashi, as it turns out, is not the only Planeswalker to have taken an interest in this world, and not all of them have its best interests at heart...

Heart Of The Storm contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Best Friend: Arashi's is Jirou.
  • Body-Count Competition: Arashi and Bakugou wind up turning the entrance exam into this, both furiously trying to out-score the other, to the point where they even rush the Zero-Pointer while the other students are running away. It actually has the happy accident of scoring them both a lot of rescue-points for saving each other from it (something Bakugou scored none of in canon). For the record they tied for villain points, but Arashi scored one extra rescue point, landing her first-place.
  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: Because Arashi has passed off her natural affinity for lightning magic as an electricity quirk, she can't use any of her other abilities or reveal her true form without outing herself as a dragon, something that would make her life way more complicated than she wants to deal with. She actually unconsciously shapeshifts her wings to save Bakugou in the exams, but does so so quickly no one can even see it... except for Nezu, who caught in on camera.
  • Childhood Friends: Arashi and Jirou become friends in middle school, and apply to UA together.
  • Hot-Blooded: Comes with Arashi's natural inclination towards Red mana: she's loud, abrasive, competitive, and blunt. Naturally, her and Bakugou get on like a house on fire.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Arashi is a Kolaghan Brood dragon, which have four feathered wings that give them truly ridiculous flying speeds, and lightning breath instead of fire. Arashi takes it one step further by learning to shapeshift into a human (not unheard of in MTG, but very unusual for dragons of Tarkir) and channeling her lightning into more versatile Shock and Awe abilities.
  • Sir Swears Alot: Arashi can compete with Bakugou for how much (and how loudly) she swears. Which she does, almost the second they meet.
  • Shock and Awe: Arashi is a Kolaghan; what did you expect?
  • Weredragon: Arashi managed to reflexively shapeshift into a human upon arriving in Japan. She specifically hasn't tried too hard to turn back into her dragon form, initially because she was heavily wounded by an Atarka right before her spark awakened and reverting to dragon form would bring the injury back, and later partially because it would be a clear sign that her powers are more than just a "Quirk", and partly because she's afraid that the first time was a fluke and she'll be stuck in dragon form if she goes back to it, though she does briefly manage to reflexively use her wings to rescue Bakugou, but it's so quick that even she didn't consciously realize what happened.
  • Wham Episode: The first eight chapters or so make it look like a fairly standard MHA self-insert, with the caveat that the protagonist is a dragon in human form; Arashi trains under Best Jeanist, befriends Jirou, and joins Class 1A, all with the intent to use her knowledge of canon to prepare for All For One. Then Tezzeret appears in The Stinger of Chapter 9, and suddenly everything is different.
  • Younger Than They Look: Arashi shapeshifted into the form of a human child, but since dragons on Tarkir are born with fully developed minds, she was technically a newborn when she arrived, and a one-year old when Best Jeanist takes her in. By the time she joins UA, although she looks fifteen, she's closer to nine.
