Heart of a Lioness: Through the Eyes of a Queen is a series of The Lion King fanfics by T5Tango. They focus on the lives of the Pridelands' queens.
The first book
is about Uru's mother Jolina. She is the first queen of the Pridelands after her pride was killed when she was a newborn. The second book is about Jolina's daughter Uru.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Several lions have impossible colorings for a lion:
- Jolina's mother Aza is light gray with lavender eyes, a dark gray tail tuft, and an off-white underbelly.
- Aza's father Azir has a dirty blond mane.
- Rondo has greyish-green eyes.
- Animal Religion: Lions bury their dead and worship the stars.
- Humanlike Animal Aging: Downplayed with the "Human-like Development Process" variant. Jolina ages slowly for a lion. At four she's treated like a sub-adult, while most four year old lioness' already have cubs.
- Mayfly–December Friendship: The first story begins three generations, which is around twenty-to-thirty years, prior to The Lion King. Rafiki is ten years old at the time. He's so old that he knew the first rulers of the Pridelands.
- Parental Abandonment:
- Jolina's father was killed when she was a newborn and her mother was killed when she was four.
- Mohatu's mother was killed in a fire. His father died a Death by Despair a while later.
- Prequel: Both of the first two books take place prior to Mufasa and Scar's births.
- Shout-Out: The stories lift lyrics from several songs, including "Fireflies" by Owl City.
- Sibling Murder: Prior to meeting Jolina, Mohatu's younger sister went though a Sanity Slippage and tried to kill him.
