Ex Synthetica
is a Worm fanfic where Taylor triggers with Tinker-Master power.
Taylor doesn't get to control insects. Instead, she controls things that are slightly... smaller. Tinker/Master Taylor. Updates weekly, hopefully. Based more on fanon than canon.
Tropes:
- Accidental Murder: Thanks to Trickster, Armsmaster accidentally cuts Browbeat in two.
- Become a Real Boy: As part of the process of repairing Dragon, Taylor, Amy, and Colin work together to create an organic body for her.
- Boring, but Practical: Dragon regards her food bank statistical reallocation software (a program to distribute unsold food to food banks based on needs and distance) as her biggest contribution to life saving.
- Combat Medic: Although Taylor's main cape persona Euonia primarily focuses on using her creations from medical purposes, she can use them for combat purposes even outside of her "Abyssal" cape persona's more obvious uses of them, namely by cutting off blood flow to the brain just long enough to knock someone out.
- For Want Of A Nail: The major nail is Taylor triggering when the Trio traps her in a dumpster when she's trying to recover the pieces of her mother's flute, leading her to trigger with a Tinker/Master power.
- Nanomachines: As Taylor's technology advances, she can make it smaller and more compact with each generation, to the point that she can fit them into blood vessels easily after a while.
- Not Quite Dead: Aegis is declared dead by the armbands after he and Clockblocker manage to freeze Leviathan and are critically injured in the process, but Taylor's nanites find him barely clinging to life.
- Power Misidentification:
- When Taylor being a Parahuman first starts to be suspected by the PRT, their best guess is that she's a hair-cutting Shaker given what she did to Sophia and the other Trio members. When Taylor overhears this, she almost laughs out loud.
- Taylor's Euonia identity downplays her ability to control her bots to keep people from freaking out because she's a Master, making it look like her control is tech-based rather than a separate power.
- Her Abyssal identity presents as a Breaker with the ability to turn into a smoke/mist state, with a few sub-abilities like a Shaker ability to manipulate the "mist" when "he" is really just a construct of her bots that Taylor controls remotely.
- Taylor initially assumed that Alabaster's power was "just" a Healing Factor, only for any nanites she actually gets into him to disappear when his power resets, completely erased.
- Samus Is a Girl: At Lisa's suggestion, Taylor makes her "Abyssal" persona a hulking male with a very deep voice to further distance her two identities.
- Second Super-Identity: Taylor joins New Wave as Euonia, a medically-focused Tinker, while using her technology to fight crime as the extremely masculine-looking Abyssal.
- Swiss-Army Superpower: The main limits of what Taylor can do with her bots are the limitations of what they can do at their size, her supply and production capabilities, and their specific designs.
- Superpower Lottery: Taylor triggers with a Tinker power that allows her not just to build miniature drones, which she can use existing drones to make and further refine, but also Master any within her range, allowing her to completely control them and share their senses. She even develops a method of copying her brain in real-time, said brains being smaller than her real one, allowing her to create copies of her consciousness that can extend her range.
