Go To

Magolor, Taranza, and Susie all THOUGHT this was going to be a pleasant, relaxing vacation to the Forgotten Land.

But no, apparently a mysterious plague ripping through Waddle Dee Town, turning people into their worst fears and traumas disagrees with that plan. With hordes of Werewoofies roaming the streets at night and a mysterious, mind-influencing beast on the prowl, it'll take the best efforts of everyone to stop this curse. Will our heroes succeed? Or will Waddle Dee Town be doomed to become its residents' worst nightmares forever?

Echoes on a Cloudless Night is a Kirby fanfic written by Lady_Jira_of_Halcandra. It is complete at sixteen chapters.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • All Your Powers Combined: Bliss's final form takes elements from just about every infected character.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Fecto Elfilis's torment of Bliss caused the latter to become the monster seen in the story.
  • Big Sister Instinct: More like little sister instinct, but when Flamberge realizes that Zan got cursed in a battle with cursed and Bliss possessed Daroach, she very nearly heads out to go take the beast on her own, only stopping when she realizes she has no idea where it is.
  • Boss Subtitles: Chaotic Chimera — Bliss.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Magolor points this out during a fight between Susie and Taranza over whether or not Bliss should be set free: the latter isn't wrong that Bliss has clearly suffered and has a right to both lash out and be remembered, but the former is also correct in pointing out that Bliss is attacking innocent people who had nothing to do with its torment.
  • Cursed with Awesome: During the Final Boss fight with Bliss, several of the cursed characters silently note that their new powers are actually pretty handy.
  • Demoted to Extra: While the main cast of Kirby and the Forgotten Land does show up, they are secondary characters, with Magolor, Taranza and Susie taking the role of main characters.
  • Draw Aggro: Upon realizing that Bliss is angry at Fecto Elfilis, Elfilin comes up with the idea of leading it away via having it chase him, with Susie, Magolor and Taranza accompanying him as backup.
  • Dwindling Party: Non-fatal version, but by the time of the final battle, the only named characters who appear to have not been cursed/infected are Adeleine, Dark Meta Knight, Francisca and Flamberge.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: The creature running around turning people in were versions of themselves and their worst fears as well as possessing some of them...is named Bliss.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Non-fatal version. Susie manages to save Elfilin from getting killed by Bliss possessed Kirby, but this also causes her to get infected and transform.
  • Hidden Depths: Dark Meta Knight uses skincare products.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: It takes several characters a bit to get used to their transformations' new powers. Magolor and Taranza actually have a sparring match in chapter 11 in order to help the latter discover more of his new powers.
  • Ironic Name: See Fluffy the Terrible above but considering all the panic it causes throughout the story, Bliss is certainly an unfitting name for the monster.
  • It Can Think: As revealed in the final chapter, Bliss is not simply a mindless monster and actually has reasons for doing what it did.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Susie. While she is standoffish and snarky, it's very clear that she cares for those she cares about, especially Magolor and Taranza.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone's basic reaction when they realize that Bliss is possessing Kirby.
  • Misplaced Retribution: When Bliss reveals its desire for revenge against Fecto Elfilis, Susie points out that not only was Kirby the one to stop the monster, but she, Magolor and Taranza only arrived on the New World a few days prior, meaning that they had nothing to do with its pain.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Bliss realizes that, no, it's victims were not servants of Fecto Elfilis, it is horrified and lifts the curse before departing peacefully.
  • Nighttime Transformation: The transformations only happen at night, with everyone shifting back when the sun comes up. At least until Chapter 15, at which point the transformations don't drop until Bliss is defeated.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: While the nighttime transformations are retained, most characters don't become wolf-like, with most instead transforming into a fusion of themselves and their worst fears. The only "traditional" werewolves in the story are the Waddle Dees.
  • Painful Transformation: The first transformations are noted by several characters to be extremely painful. Strangely enough, all further transformations (including the first detransformation) are painless.
  • Skewed Priorities: Upon discovering that Bliss is not actually dead and is currently rampaging through Waddle Dee Town, Magolor takes the time to point out that Susie's wings are warm. She rightfully calls him out on it.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Bliss is described at several points to be snake-like. It's true form is revealed to be a foxlike spirit.
  • The Unfettered: Bliss doesn't care if it goes down in history as a monster-so long as it can get revenge on the beings it believes hurt it. Until it learns the truth, at least.
  • This Was His True Form: Upon Bliss deciding to pass on, it's revealed to have actually been a foxlike creature.
  • Transformation Horror: Beyond the obvious of transforming into a fusion of yourself and your worse fear, the transformations also get worse every time, with more and more elements of the worst fear being to appear.
  • Tragic Villain: Bliss, in true Kirby fashion. As revealed in the final chapter, it was Forced to Watch as Fecto Elfilis destroyed its home and poisoned the minds of the Beast Pack members and, while it was able to avoid detection for a time, once it accidently stumbled into Lab Discovera, it ended up sealed inside and forced to live of what remained of Fecto Elfilis, which warped it into the bitter monster it is in the story.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Meta Knight and Susie's transformations both have elements of this, with Meta Knight slowly becoming Mecha Knight once again while Susie develops parts of Star Dream.
