Go To

Eraserhead meets a young boy on a rooftop one night. It's his birthday, and he's staying up to watch the meteor shower. Eraserhead doesn't really buy it, but he never finds the kid on that rooftop again. He makes up his mind to adopt the kid someday.

Datastream is a master of surveillance, a coordinator like no other, instrumental in many villain takedowns. Nobody knows who he is, but they're always grateful when he comes on the comms. (Well, except for Endeavor, but the feeling's mutual.) Eraserhead knows Datastream doesn't have a good homelife, but he'll have to wait to adopt him until Datastream will even tell him his real name.

Present Mic is on patrol when he receives an urgent call from Datastream alerting him to a case of assault in progress. After making the rescue, he's shocked to hear the victim's mother doesn't care that her son got hurt. He decides he's going to adopt the kid, even if he has to convince his husband, Eraserhead, to agree.

The one thing that nobody knows? They're all the same kid.

Datastream is a My Hero Academia fanfic by TarynMcT wherein Izuku is born with the Quirk to both visualize and manipulate electronic streams around him and his journey to become his own kind of hero. It was completed on June 19, 2022.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Endeavor, as per canon. He gets his comeuppance when Izuku (as Datastream) reveals all of the things he did, resulting in Endeavor being sent to prison and stripped of his hero license.
    • Inko. She hates Izuku due to his quirk reminding her of her father, who could see emotions. She abuses and neglects him, at one point even throwing a half-full pot of coffee at him. She gets her comeuppance when Izuku tracks her down through her cell phone and has her arrested.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Aizawa appears on Izuku's 10th birthday, whereas in canon he doesn't appear until Izuku gets into UA.
    • Similarly, due to Izuku's work as Datastream, many heroes appear earlier than in canon, including Present Mic, who is Eraserhead's husband.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Izuku not only has a high school diploma before entering UA, he takes university courses alongside getting a teaching license and a quirk counselor's license. By the time the first year at UA is over, Izuku is a fully licensed intelligence hero. By the epilogue, he takes over for Nedzu as principal of UA.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change:
    • Izuku's quirk, Datastream, allows him to see and interact with electrical signals.
    • One for All ends up being passed to Mirio Togata.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Instead of being his teachers, Shouta and Hizashi become Izuku's adoptive parents, in addition to Shouta being the boy's uncle.
    • Instead of admiring All Might, Izuku comes to dislike him due to the hero's rashness and inability to follow Datastream's plans, particularly during the Kamino/All for One Raid, which injures both heroes and civilians and allows Shigaraki and Kurogiri to get away.
  • Asshole Victim:
    • Endeavor abused his youngest son and hurt his eldest to the point he was presumed dead. His punishment? Everything he did comes to light, and he is stripped of his hero license and thrown in jail.
    • All Might disregarded Datastream's plan while Present Mic and Midnight, both of whom Izuku considers family, are at risk of being hurt because of it. His punishment? Being chased around UA by security bots, as well as being sent children's magazines, and the ultimate punishment of watching Izuku do a better job of training his successor than he ever could.
Izuku: It's a learning magazine, All Might. It helps children learn basic skills, such as following directions! Look, there's even a game in this month's volume, if you follow the directions, it will spell out a story! I wonder if you are capable of doing something even that simple.
  • Broken Pedestal: While Izuku can respect All Might's resume as a hero, he eventually got tired of the Symbol of Peace repeatedly disregarding Datastream's plans, especially when he rushes in ahead of schedule during the Kamino raid, causing the battle to go much worse than it could have if All Might had simply followed the plan.
  • Completed Fic: Completed June 19, 2022.
  • Despite the Plan: The Kamino raid. The plan was to shut off the power for the area near the hospital (Phase 1), then pause to let the team raiding the bar get into position (Phase 2), then attack on both fronts (Phase 3). Of course, once the plan gets underway, All Might jumps the gun and charges in to attack All for One before Phase 2 has had a chance to complete. As a result, Shigaraki and Kurogiri are able to escape.
  • Fantastic Racism: Aizawa and Shinsou have both found themselves discriminated against for having "villainous" quirks.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • The Kamino raid occurs after the USJ attack due to Izuku's information and All for One is captured and taken to Tartarus.
    • Mineta is expelled from 1-A on the first day and Monoma takes his place before the Sports Festival.
    • Hitoshi, Shouto, Monoma, and Denki end up as the top four of the festival's final round.
  • Love Triangle: Izuku, Shoto, and Hitoshi. Eventually resolved when the three of them start dating each other.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Aizawa is Inko's younger half-brother and thus Izuku's uncle.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 17: The heroes raid All for One's base in Kamino. All Might jumps in early, allowing Shigaraki and Kurogiri to escape, but All for One is captured and sent to Tartarus.
    • Chapter 28: Izuku convinces Shigaraki to turn himself in, ending all possibilities for the League of Villains to make a return.
    • Chapter 31: Dabi saves Eri by burning Overhaul to a crisp, and delivers her to Present Mic, who was patrolling nearby. With Overhaul's death, the Shie Hassaikai arc of canon is entirely averted. Due to being affected by Eri's quirk, Touya gets a second chance at life.
