Danganronpa Reimagined: The Return to Hope's Peak Academy
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Downplayed with Leon. While his murder of Yasuhiro was planned in contrast to his canon counterpart. He only did so because Celestia manipulated him into thinking that Sayaka was killed by him.
    • Celestia manipulates Leon into killing Hiro, and frames Makoto and Sayaka for the plan. Something she never did in canon.
  • Adapted Out: Chihiro isn't a participant of the killing game this time. Subverted, as he was removed from the Killing Games by Junko since his growth spurt would be a clue of how many years the students have forgotten. He is still in Hope's Peak, and takes measures to help his classmates. The surviving students would late found him in Chapter 6.
  • Amnesiac Lover: Makoto and Sayaka were dating before the Tradegy while in Hope's Peak Academy, and had gotten married during their time in the shelter. Both of them forgot when Junko stole their memories, only finding out during the sixth trial. It was also the time that Sayaka found out that she was pregnant with Makoto's child.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: Makoto is knocked unconscious near the end of the Chapter 1 Daily Life, so Yasuke takes the role of protagonist for the remainder of the chapter.
  • Ascended Extra: Yasuke Matsuda and Natsumi Kuzuryuu are active participants of the game this time around. Yasuke even takes the role of protagonist for a brief moment.
  • Bait-and-Switch: During Chapter 1, it appears that Sayaka had died just like what happened in canon. The next chapter reveals that she's still alive, and it's Yasuhiro who dies instead.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Part of Leon's motive in the first case was to kill Yasuhiro in order to gain the affections of Sayaka, when he was jealous of Makoto for having her affection.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Hiro, a survivor in canon, is the victim of the first trial.
    • Downplayed by Celestia, who ends up as one of the victims of Chapter 3 instead of the culprit.
    • Toko and Kyoko, both survivors in canon, are one of the victims and the falsely convicted culprit respectively of Chapter 5.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Leon is crushed by a giant ball instead of pelted to death by baseballs.
    • Yasuke is stabbed to death by Mukuro instead of Junko.
    • Mukuro is executed by a poison-laded dress instead of the Spear of Gungnir.
    • Celeste has her head bashed by a Justice Hammer instead of being executed.
    • Instead of dying to blunt-force trauma, Hifumi is executed.
    • Instead of dying to poison, Monokuma revived Sakura long enough to have her executed fighting numerous Monokuma bots.
    • Junko is killed in an explosion instead of crushed by a brick.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • They are many hints sprinkled throughout the story that Sayaka is pregnant.
      • In chapter 1, Hiro makes a prediction that Sayaka will have baby. He never said that the baby will come soon, though.
      • It's been noted that Sayaka has been getting hungrier than usual, a tell-tale sign that she's feeding more than just herself.
      • While bathing in the bathhouse, Sayaka noted that she has "a funny feeling in her stomach".
    • Many of Hiro's predictions throughout Chapter 1 foreshadow future events in the story.
      • Hiro warns Junko (actually Mukuro in disguise) that she will die by the hands of the one she loves the most. "Junko" ends up dying from her execution, thus she is killed by the mastermind who is her sister.
      • After being annoyed at people trying to predict the future, Hiro warns Celeste that she will be betrayed by someone she considers a friend. Celeste befriends Hifumi, who proceeded to betray her once he realizes her plan isn't going to work.
      • Hiro attempted to warn Yasuke about a bad future, but Yasuke dismisses it as pseudoscience. It's implied that Hiro saw Yasuke's death coming.
      • Hiro claims that everyone is trapped in an endless cycle of pain and misery. Not only did Hiro predict what the surviving students will go through throughout the story, he also predicted the big reveal of the story.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: The final trial has Junko reveal that she's put her classmates through a constant cycle of Killing Games, with each new one beginning with Junko's death at the end of the previous game sending her into an alternate timeline where she retains her memory of the previous games.
  • Hope Spot: Right in the middle of Monokuma's execution of Kyoko and Alter Ego, Chihiro is able to shut down the execution, allowing the other students to get inside the execution chamber to save them both. However, there's only enough time for them to save one of them before Monokuma's able to get the execution started again, so Kyoko ends up having the others take Alter Ego while she ends up getting executed.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Leon is still the culprit of the first trial.
    • The second murder still takes place in a changing room, with Byakuya tampering with the crime scene to frame Genocide Jill/Jack.
    • Taka, Hifumi, and Celeste still die in the third chapter. The difference is who the Blackened is.
    • Sakura still poisons herself, however Monokuma ends up reviving and executing her.
    • Makoto, Aoi and Byakuya still survive the killing game.
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: Kyoko states this to the mastermind right before she's crushed to death during her execution.
  • Paranoia Gambit:
    • The mastermind sets up Yasuke's death by having his secret be that "Junko" isn't who he thinks she is.
    • Again in Chapter 4. Instead of revealing Sakura is the traitor, they only tell the surviving students that a traitor is among them, quickly turning them against each other.
  • Spared By Adaptation:
    • Natsumi wasn't killed by Sato in this continuity. She ultimately survives the killing game and escapes the school.
    • Yasuke wasn't murdered by Junko in this version of the story. He doesn't last long, however, ending up as the victim of the second chapter.
    • Thanks to Hiro ending up in her place as the first victim, Sayaka ends up living past the first chapter this time around, ultimately going on to survive the killing game.
    • Downplayed by Mukuro, who's executed as the second killer rather than for a rule violation in Chapter 1.
    • Downplayed by Hifumi, who's executed as the culprit of Chapter 3 instead of one of the victims.
    • Mondo and Chihiro are among the survivors of the killing game.
  • Taking the Heat: Makoto, Sayaka, and Kyoko all attempt to claim responsibility for being the Blackened in the Chapter 5 Class Trial. The last one is the person who ends up being executed for it.
  • Yandere: The reason Celestia masterminded the events of the first case was because she was jealous she couldn't spend more time with Makoto.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain:
    • In Chapter 2, the surviving students attempt to lift everyone's spirits up by hosting a volleyball tournament. It worked for a while, until Monokuma interrupted the tournament to deliver the next motive.
    • In Chapter 4, the surviving students found the Music Room on the newly unlocked Fourth Floor. Sayaka uses it to host a concert to cheer everyone up. While the concert did improve everyone's mood a little bit, her efforts are made meaningless when Monokuma reveals that there is a traitor among them, turning everyone against each other.

Danganronpa Reimagined 2: Trouble in Despair Resort
  • Adapted Out:
    • The Ultimate Imposter isn't involved within the story, and Word of God states that they aren't part of this continuity.
    • Fuyuhiko and Peko aren't killing game participants in the story, however Word of God confirms that they are involved within this continuity.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Mahiru Koizumi plays a more important role than canon, being one of the main characters of the story.
    • Kyosuke Munakata, Chisa Yukizome and Ryota Mitarai are all participants of the Killing School Trip, while in canon, they were only featured within Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Chisa still ends up becoming the first person to die in the killing game.
    • Teruteru still becomes the first culprit of the killing game.
