Birth of Evil
a fanfic based on Doctor Sleep and The Shining acting as a prequel to The Resurrection of Rose by AustinDR. It catalogs the backstories of a majority of the members of Rose the Hat's clan of True Knots. It began on December 14, 2019, and is currently running.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Cold-Blooded Torture: Elizabeth Bathory makes a habit out of torturing peasant women to death not only for pleasure but also to prolong her life.
- Evil Mentor: Bathory teaches a young Rose the Hat in acquiring steam.
- Greater-Scope Villain: Elizabeth Bathory was the one responsible for transforming Rose into a True Knot and in a posthumous fashion, she is also at fault for the events of the film and Resurrection.
- Karmic Death: Elizabeth Báthory is locked away in her own castle after she was found guilty of committing 80 murders as was the case in real life. However, she met her demise when Rose the Hat returns after leaving her for three years, and she not only kills her but sucks her dry of her steam.
- Historical Domain Superperson: The story has the real-life Elizabeth Báthory raising Rose the Hat. She steals steam from women with the Shining as a way of achieving immortality and eternal beauty. She teaches Rose her ways, making the latter a True Knot.
- Immortality Seeker: Elizabeth murders hundreds of (Shining-bound) women for their steam to make herself live longer.
- Sadist: Elizabeth Bathory herself, obviously, but Rose already showed some sick interest in killing.
- Serial Killer:
- Elizabeth Bathory due to killing hundreds of young peasant women for their steam.
- Barry the Chunk had murdered young girls before becoming a True Knot.
- Wicked Stepmother: Elizabeth takes Rose in under her wing and also forces her to assist in her most abominable of crimes.
- Would Hurt a Child: Bathory had killed many young peasant women, some borderline still qualifying as children.
