Fanfic / Better Call Saul Chicanery Cut

Go To

Better Call Saul: The Chicanery Cut is a fan-written hypothetical script of "Saul Gone", the series finale of Better Call Saul, made by a collaboration of various users on r/okbuddychicanery. It's effectively a massive conglomeration of inside jokes and memes.

This chicanery provides examples of:

  • Banana Peel: Saul slips on one running away from the authorities.
"This is the moment Gene became Slippin' Jimmy."
  • The Beastmaster: Gustavo Fring apparently learned animal telepathy in Chile, and this extends to humans in fursuits, as he demonstrates with Lyle. He can also imbue this power into technology, such as Game Boy Colors, which allows other people to control certain animals.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Walter White shows up to save Mike and Saul from the renegade Kaylee army, and Huell shows up to eat most of them.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Kim and Jimmy kiss for one last time at the end.
  • Clone Army: Mike creates an entire army of Kaylees which Gustavo gives him a Game Boy Color to control.
  • Dance Party Ending: The episode closes with every major character from Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul singing and dancing to "I Fought the Law" together, including the ghosts of everyone who died in both series.
  • Denser and Wackier: And how! As befitting a fanfic written by people on a meme subreddit, the script captures absolutely none of the drama and realism Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul had; instead there is cannibalism, clone armies, superpowers, musical numbers, and a heaping helping of Breaking the Fourth Wall.
  • Died Happily Ever After: Apparently, almost everyone who died during Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were content in death, notably Gustavo Fring, who has apparently passed the torch down to Lyle to take over his meth empire.
  • Easily Forgiven: Jimmy is pardoned for all his horrible crimes simply because he said he was sorry and would never do it again. Naturally, the script considers this deserved.
  • Eaten Alive: Huell eats Kim alive, feet last. He later does the same to many clones of her, a clone of Lalo, and the army of Kaylees, and threatens to do the same to Saul if he didn't give him human sacrifices.
  • Expendable Clone: Saul uses Gustavo's cloning machine to feed Huell by simply sacrificing an endless number of Kim clones.
  • A Hell of a Time: The Neo-Nazis and Lydia are shown in Hell, but that doesn't stop them from joining in on the massive musical number at the end.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Mike is exclusively referred to as "Finger", even by those close to him and by the script itself, until he snaps and calls everyone out on reducing him to a laughing stock through it.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Kim is apparently a staunch white supremacist here, killing Ernesto and attempting to kill Huell simply because they were both black. The script even claims that "This is the moment Kim became KKKim".
  • Random Events Plot: The story constantly switches plots at the drop of a hat, and switches timelines between before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and the Gene Timeline rather abruptly.
  • Shock and Awe: Saul's metaphorical "lightning bolts shooting out of his fingertips" are apparently literal here, and he uses his lightning powers to defeat Chuck, and later several police officers.
  • Speak in Unison: The army of Kaylees all speak in unison, usually in relation to their "Pop Pop".
  • Special Effect Failure: In-Universe, Bryan Cranston is supposed to wear an even more ridiculous-looking bald cap than he previously wore in El Camino and Better Call Saul, to the point his head is gigantic.
  • Sunroof Shenanigans: Jimmy sees that one of the cop cars about to arrest him has an open sunroof, and realizes what he must do. One last Chicago Sunroof, or Omaha Sunroof in this case.
Jimmy: "It's Slippin' Time."
  • Take That!: Kim says she's sick and tired of "seeing the High Fryve guy every 5 minutes", referring to a notorious Wendy's commercial that played frequently during the initial airings of the last few episodes of Better Caul Saul.
  • That Man Is Dead: Eventually, the title character gives up both his Saul Goodman and Gene Takovic identities, and embraces his arrest as Jimmy McGill.
  • That's All, Folks!: Jimmy ends the show by turning right to the camera and saying "Well, that's Saul folks!"
  • Title Drop: Mercilessly parodied. Literally any time a previous episode of Better Call Saul, or the name of the series, or the name of Breaking Bad can be mentioned, it is.
    • Saul especially goes on a long rant where he title-drops every possible BCS episode name he can possibly work into a sentence.
Walt: "I'm Breaking Bad."
Saul: "Well then, you Better Call Saul."
