Ensemble Dark Horse / Love Live!

Go To

As a franchise containing many different series and adaptations and with a huge number of characters, many relatively minor characters have become popular with the fanbase.

Love Live! School Idol Project
  • Most of the girls' mothers qualify as these.
    • Kotori's mother, the director of Otonokizaka, for being generally supportive of her as well as the group, willing to let them become an official club and enter into the Love Live if it'll save the school. Director Minami is also popular with...certain kinds of mother-appreciating fans.
    • Rin's mom.
    • Ditto Hanayo's mom, who looks like a grown-up Fuuko Ibuki.
  • The Otonokizaka High School alpacas are the source of several fandom memes, and you could even get them as part of an April Fools' Day event in School Idol Festival.
  • A-RISE is very popular, thanks to them being friendly rivals to µ's with catchy songs to boot. Some detractors of Aqours even go so far as to wish that the new Love Live! series focused on A-RISE instead. Alternatively, some fans wish that A-RISE and/or the schools in School Idol Festival would get a Day in the Limelight OVA.
  • The African-American woman that jogs beside Umi and Nico in The School Idol Movie also gathered a clique of fans.
  • The Female Singer in The School Idol Movie, which sparks a lot of speculation & theory from fans due to her being a mysterious Ambiguously Human character.

Love Live! Sunshine!!

  • The two lookalikes in Season 1 Episode 12 and Season 2 Episode 4, who resemble Honoka and Hanayo in terms of appearance. note
  • The Kurosawa sisters', Yoshiko's, and Riko's mothers count.
  • Tsuki, a character exclusively created for the Over the Rainbow movie, which sparks a lot of debate on the character's gender in his/her first appearance.
  • Mari's mother is this as well.

Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club

  • The president of the Nijigasaki Drama Club is surprisingly popular despite being a minor character in the series, partly because she's voiced by Momoyo Koyama of Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight fame, partly because of her design, and partly because she's immediately shipped with Shizuku the moment they first appeared onscreen together.
  • Kyoko, Ayumu's fan who debuted in Episode 6, and made sporadic appearances until episode 12 gave her a more meaningful role, has gained popularity due to her appearance and voice resemblance to Honoka Kousaka, with many jokes done at how Honoka has apparently reincarnated twice into the Love Live franchiseNote , or using her goddess' powers to travel in time and space to help the new idol club.
  • The unnamed Vice President of Nana's student council has also become a big fan favorite for her dorky fangirling over Setsuna in Episode 11...while completely unaware that the school idol she idolizes the most happens to be the student council president she serves under. Her complete obliviousness to Setsuna's true identity despite the obvious hints has been a popular subject of comedic fanart revolving around her and Setsuna.
  • The Nagashi Somen Club has garnered a lot of love from the fans despite appearing only a total of once thanks to their memorable introduction as well as the sheer outlandishness of such a club existing in the school, with many fans expressing a desire, either jokingly or otherwise, to see a spin-off featuring them as the main characters. The staff seems to have caught on to this, as the Nagashi Somen club's been given their own "merch" in the form of somen you can purchase at The Chara Cafe in Odaiba for April Fools' 2021 and in Season 2, the club takes the center stage of the 2nd School Idol Festival.
  • The glasses-wearing twins in Nana's student council, both with gray hair in braids, also caught the attention of many fans when they first appeared in Episode 3.
  • The Konoe sisters' mother is incredibly popular despite only appearing a handful of times during the anime's second season, having spawned numerous fanart just moments after her first debut!
  • An unnamed blonde member of Motion Pictures Studies Club has gained enough popularity among long time fans largely because she was voiced by no other than Anna Mugiho, the seiyuu behind every Love Live! animals throughout the series, who has finally given a role as a human character in the franchise history.

Love Live! Superstar!!

  • Ren's mother, Hana Hazuki, is possibly one of the most memorable side-characters in Love Live, likely owing to the fact that she was an idol herself in her adolescence. The fact that she's the only character to ever be confirmed to be dead in the franchise just helps in this regard.

Love Live! School Idol Festival

  • Sachiko Tanaka, due to her chuunibyou antics in her cards and Side Stories.
  • Kasane Hasekura, due to her simple yet cute design.
  • Jennifer, for being the Ms. Fanservice of the game.

Love Live! School idol festival ALL STARS

  • Sasuke, Ayumu's pet snake from the early Famitsu Yonkoma is incredibly popular thanks to pretty much encapsulating the early Nijigaku material's craziness that many people fell in love with. It has gone on to feature on multiple fanart, and inevitable comparison memes between him and his similarly-named-counterpart from Naruto, or Ekans from Pokémon. It came to a head when the "Muteki-kyuu*Believer" PV featured it as a gigantic plush owned by Ayumu, and the next day, official merchandise of it - in the form of a 70 cm plush - was released for Nijigaku's 2nd Live. Even the promotional page has fun with this, acknowledging that the fanbase asked for this... for some reason.
