"A few kids in a village barred off from the rest of the world decide to take off and see what the world has to offer. The vast and wide Eastern Land after all is a fantastical world where spirituality never died out. Going on an innocent quest to explore the world, they find out that it may be much more brutal than they imagined... Will their spirits last on their epic quest?"
The Story Premise
The Quest of Eastern Dreams, known simply as "Quest" for short, is a private Journal Roleplay created and managed on Discord. Set in a world known as the Eastern Land, the roleplay follows a set group of characters known as "Drifters" in their travels across the vast oceans and regions that this world has to offer. Created as part of a long running roleplay continuity since 2019, named the DERPU, every member of the server is a returning player from a previous RP.

Player Characters

    Lea

Cerulea Yumita, The Sniper Captain

A diminutive fairy-like creature (though eventually becoming human-sized) dressed with a pirate's outfit. As her childish dream of adventure beyond Makai becomes a punishing reality, Lea physically and mentally grows into her role as the party's navigator and captain.
  • The Captain: After the Drifters are given their own pirate ship, Lea has taken the role of captain, leading her friends in their travels across the seas.

  • Pirate Girl: Her main thing is being a pirate girl. She's the one who embraces her role as a pirate the most, being eager to sail the seas and hunt down treasure.

  • No Origin Stories Allowed: Out of everyone in their ragtag group, Lea is the only one without a solid backstory. As far as anyone can tell, she just materialized into existence.
    • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Along with her lack of a backstory, Lea's parents are no where to be found, not once ever being mentioned.

    Alastor

Alastor Smith, The Gunslinger

A swordsman and a specialist in multiple types of firearms. Once a loud but well intentioned boy with dreams of adventure, Alastor has grown up to become something more of a realist. Through the trials of his journey, he became a bit of a punk, badmouthing anyone who gets in his way. Still, he remains just as kind as he was when he was younger, acting as the team's Moral Compass.
  • The Gunslinger: Alastor is an expert in an assortment of guns, usually learning how to use it the moment it falls into his hands. One of his Classes, also known as Gunslinger, allows him to use hidden features in his guns and create an infinite amount of ammunition for it, so long as he actually sees the ammo.

  • Ace Custom: Alastor's two main weapons, a sword given to him by Ishida and a revolver with two barrels, can be considered this. His blade has been modified with what seems to be a motorcycle's engine and throttle, allowing it to burst into flames at just a twist of the handle. His revolver has also been modified by an unknown person, allowing it to support specialized bullets made of silver. When fired, these bullets will explode the moment they make impact, and even linger to deal extra damage before fully fading away.

  • Badass Longcoat: After arriving in a new region, Alastor ditches his old hoodie for a longcoat, becoming a staple of his fashion sense. A fashion choice that was inherited by his father, Marcus.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Nearing the end of a climactic battle, Alastor's right arm had been cut off.

  • Situational Hand Switch: After losing his right arm, Alastor had been forced to learn how to use his left as his dominant hand.

  • Heroic Lineage: Alastor is the son of Marcus Smith, The Demon King, who had a very active role in the Prequel.

  • Cool Sword: His current blade can revved like a motorcycle's throttle, allowing his attacks to have an extra boost in power. Basically a BFS with an engine.

  • Dual Wielding: Before being amputated, he was not a stranger to using two guns at the same time.

  • Flaming Sword: Once revved, his blade ignites into a blaze of glory.

  • Firing One-Handed: Most of his guns are meant to be fired with two hands to dampen recoil. However, Alastor ignores this entirely and just keeps shooting.

  • Grapple Move: Before his uncle, Veyvlet removed the Yamato from within him, Alastor had access to a strange, spectral arm. This arm let him grab his enemies in combat, usually slamming them into the ground as an attack.

  • Chick Magnet: Not actually seen in the story, but the truth of the matter is: Should he have wanted to, Alastor could have gotten into a relationship with one of three different girls.

  • Rule of Cool: More often than not, Alastor adds an extra flair to his attacks or movements, for the specific reason of looking stylish. These things are often unnecessary, some not even making sense, but this matters little to him as he is too busy being cool.
    • Alastor was once able to survive freefalling from a tall height by shooting his shotgun, which somehow negated all momentum from his fall.
    • He wields a multitude of weapons, a few of which usually needing a lot of strength to merely hold, let alone use, all with one hand.
    • He has a sword with an engine on it. It somehow works, surprisingly.
    Simon

Simon Anastasia, You Say Run

  • Demolitions Expert: Simon has a natural talent at crafting bombs and explosive devices, which is strange and a bit worrying due to his young age. Nevertheless, if the Drifters need to blow something up, he's your go to.
  • Forced from Their Home: Born and raised in an advanced Floating Continent known as Mu, Simon served his homeland as best he could. However, due to the meddling of his father, Simon was forced from his home and down onto the surface world below.
    • Master Race: As a result of being a child of Mu, Simon believes that people who live on the surface are inferior to the Murians.
    Aneko

Aneko Yoshika, The Undead Abomination

An amnesiac zombie who only remembered her name. Aneko was a simple girl that tagged along with the gang ever since the beginning. Having discovered herself at some point during their adventure, it was revealed that she was a rather energetic girl, who was subjected to experimentation that allowed some to change race entirely.
  • Back Up Twin: With the original dead and Aneko unaware of her status as a homunculus, she takes over where the first left off, continuing the life she lived.
  • Body Horror: Aneko's transformation sigil allows for her to transform her body into properties or shapes she understands well. But if she does not understand it, it will horribly mutilate her body.
  • Clone Angst: Immediately after learning the truth of what she is, Aneko begins to spiral down, believing everything she has done up to that point has been nothing but a lie.
  • Fake Memories: Aneko is actually a homunculus implanted with the memories of Aneko Yoshika.

Party Members

    Ryuka

Ryuka Tagestern, The Fake Hero

A young angel boy who can't fly. More than anything, he longs to be a hero that can save others. He hates seeing other people getting hurt and will drop anything to save others. He acts as the group's healer, but also one of their most powerful fighters.
  • Characterisation Click Moment: Ryuka unleashes a side of him that is very sullen and angered while against Adeline, whereas his previous actions and attitude have been nothing but happy and jolly. This is later foreshadowing for when Ryuka gives up his ideals against Blanche, turning in to a completely hollow and empty person when in combat.

  • Lethally Stupid: His want to always fight keeps getting others in trouble. It's also implied that he is a magnet for danger in general, with his stupidity only inciting the fire.

  • Pride: Ryuka holds his ideals up more than anything, believing them to be absolutely correct. As said by the Elemental Knight of Holy, he does not allow himself to lose to himself.

  • Villainous Lineage: Ryuka is the son of an infamous terrorist and pirate, Xavus Tagestern.
    Ayane

Ayane Shimeru, The Three-Swords Ronin

    Naoki

Naoki Ishida and Naoki Coxen, the Renowned Killers

At first, Naoki Ishida is a normal boy who's bad at magic. But once he takes off his glasses, his sinister and murderous second personality is shown. The both of them exist due to a traumatic event that happened in Naoki's life. Now they act as the Chef and Thief of the group respectively.

  • Cope by Pretending: Coxen constantly threatens to steal and kill others. This is his way of coping for his traumatic past, where he unintentionally killed his entire clan.

  • Had to Be Sharp: Naoki grew up in a clan of knights and assassins. He learned how to steal, kill and fight because of his upbringing.

  • Iron Woobie: Naoki is told that he's bad at magic, one of his only passions. In his past, he unintentionally murdered his entire clan watching as the only person that truly cared for him is killed in front of his eyes. Ishida does not truly exist in the world, constantly feeling emptiness due to the nature of his existence and Coxen dies, leaving Ishida all alone without apart of himself. The universe seems to have it out for him, but in spite of that, Naoki keeps smiling.

  • Wangst: No matter the situation, either Naoki will find a way to complain about something.

  • Magical Eye: Naoki has an ability known as the Mystic Eyes of Ultimate Analysis which grants him extreme analysis capabilities, able to determine specifics like the strength of a sword, the durability of armor, and texture of pure glass. This is all possible because his eyes enable him to see the entire world in numbers, being able to interpret their meanings which would be lost on ordinary humans.

  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Due to the bounty placed on his head, Naoki has to hide his face away from anyone who might recognize him. Luckily for him, the posters with his face show him without glasses, allowing him to wear a pair in order to become unrecognizable. This somehow works.
    Leaf

Leaf Shorisa, The Azure Dragon

    Cirno

Cirno Strife, The Sword Fairy

  • Debut Queue: The Drifters form by a series of chance meetings until they formally leave their village. From there, other new members join from time to time.
    • The RP first starts with the quartet of Alastor, Simon, Ryuka and Naoki. Afterwards, they meet up with Cerulea so that they can leave their village. After being split up due to the Dragon Seal Trial, Alastor and Ryuka befriends Aneko. Once they leave their village, they begin escorting the Princess Ayane to their home. Cirno joins after asking to join the Drifters. Murasa also asks to join and is accepted easily by the Drifters.
      • Melody does join the Drifters during Stage 2. He leaves once they are split up because of the events of the finale in Stage 2.

  • Emergency Stash: While broke and on the run from Marines, the group raid a casino and rescue Ayane from it. This is how they fund most of their adventures going forward.

  • Pirate Song: Murasa sings a song called "Ocean Hymn", a song popular amongst pirates and marines. She does this to honor the death of Irie.

  • Second Episode Introduction: The characters of Cerulea and Aneko weren't present during the first event. They were introduced in the event after it.

  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: During one of their many adventures, the Drifters meet a boy named A.C. Usui, who is the son of a returning character from the previous Roleplay, Horohoro Usui. It was later revealed that his real name is Air Con, which is to be expected by his father, who is both an idiot and an ice user.

  • The Quest: Midway through the story in Stage 3, the Drifters agree to take on a quest to end the Darkenism Shrine.

  • Those Were Only Their Scouts: At the finale of stage 2, The group overcome a powerful enemy with the ability to control sand, Ian Halen. • Big Bad Ensemble: The Darkenism Shrine, the main antagonist group, is comprised of their leader Naoko Ishida and their Knights. They're in the same group, but they have their own separate agendas and goals.

  • Wham Episode: When the Drifters witness the main antagonist, Naoko, nuke an entire island the tone of the Roleplay dramatically changes. The group are split up, and the general tone of non slice-of-life events gets darker. The Drifters are in the real world now.

  • Battle Aura: Very commonly seen in the story. It also has an actual canon reason for existing, being a learnable ability that enhances the user, especially in defense.

  • Declaration of Protection: Many of the crew members have made it clear that they will do whatever it takes in order to protect one another, through any means they deem necessary.
