Darth Wiki / My Hero Academia: Rewritten Sparks

Go To

After dying at the hands of All for One, Midoriya Izuku finds himself reliving his life yet again. But some things are different this time around, and it's all thanks to the entity that revived him. Now tasked with a mission to find an artifact known as The Illuminating Spark, Izuku must gather a team of new yet familiar faces to find it and restore his timeline to normal.

My Hero Academia: Rewritten Sparks (or Boku no Hero Academia: Kakinaosa Reta Hibana) is an upcoming fanmade rewrite of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia written by SK 1212. It follows a new tale of Izuku Midoriya and his childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugou, as they recount their high school years at the famous U.A. High. They'll meet familiar faces, both friend and foe. But Izuku has a secret that he has yet to tell Katsuki. They went through this before...in fact, he remembers dying at the hands of All for One.

My Hero Academia: Rewritten Sparks will contain examples of:

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: The most noticeable being Present Mic's counterpart in the story, who's now a transfeminine man and uses she/her pronouns. Then there's Eraserhead's counterpart, who identifies as transmasculine nonbinary and uses he/they/vamp pronouns.

  • Adaptation Name Change
    • Izuku's hero name will now be The Strong Will Hero: Dekiru instead of just Deku.
    • Katsuki will still go by Dynamight, but he chose the name much earlier in canon.
      • His subtitle will be The Explosive Wolf Hero because of the nature of his Zhao.
    • Shoto's hero name will be The Extreme Temperature Hero: Thermaster, but he temporarily uses Shoto since he will still feel hesitant to use his fire quirk.
    • Ochako's full hero title will be The Bubbly Astronaut Hero: Uravity
    • Tenya's new hero name will be The Speedy Knight Hero: Idaten.
    • All Might's new hero name will be The Inspiring Spark Hero: One Almighty Star.
    • Aizawa's AU counterpart will go by The Vampiric Hero: Stryxxxer because of their personality change. He also goes by Volante Tafoya-Litvinov instead of Aizawa Shouta because of him being raised by his Cuban-Russian father for most of his childhood. Volante Tafoya-Litvinov is the closest Spanish equivalent to Aizawa's full name.
    • Present Mic's AU counterpart will go by The Songbird Hero: Sunny Day. She also goes by Yamada Himawari instead of Yamada Hizashi, with Hizashi being her dead name.
    • Midnight's new hero name will be The Alluring Mist Hero: Mystique.
    • Oboro, who's now alive in this fic, will go by The Thundering Hero: Loud Cloud.

  • Alternate Universe: A mix between What If? and Alternate History, hence the name of the story. 'Rewritten' refers to the changes in the story, and 'Sparks' refers to the story's characters.
    • And to a certain extent Continuation since the author wrote the fanfiction before Chapter 306 came out.

  • Henshin Hero: Pro Heroes can now change into their hero outfit using a H.E.R.O. (Hero Evolutionary Revamp Outfit) device. The author added this into the story to make it easier for Pro Heroes to change their clothes rather than go into changing rooms.

  • Nervous Wreck: Midoriya and Sunny Day to a tee.
    • Although surprisingly, between the two of them, Sunny Day has more anxiety issues than her original counterpart. Hell, almost all of the tropes on Anxiety Tropes best describe how nervous she is.
    • Midoriya still has social anxiety like his original counterpart. But it's less because of the quirk discrimination and more because his childhood friend is an overprotective guard dog. Literally.

  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: One of the main plot points will be about a new way to gain a quirk called the Illuminating Spark, which only a tiny percentage can achieve. This results in a person earning an XīngZhào, or Zhao for short, a quirk based on the receiver's personality/interests/hobbies/dream jobs/etc.
    • This is a somewhat blatant shoutout to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, as seen below.
    • The main cast will all have/gain a Zhao by the end of the 'series'.
      • Midoriya starts the story with a Zhao called Quirk Database, which allows him to analyze any quirk of the person he looks at. The drawbacks of Quirk Database gave Midoriya a near-blind right eye.

  • Peggy Sue: Despite this being a rewrite of the original series, it's implied by the description that Midoriya will have memories of My Hero Academia.
    • The author wrote the rewrite before being able to read Chapter 306, which mildly subverts it. So Midoriya will only have memories of the original series up to Chapter 306, whereas the rest of his memories onward will be from the author's own rewritten ending.

  • Personality Swap: Sort of with Eraserhead and Present Mic, who go by Stryxxxer and Sunny Day, respectfully. Although they keep most of their old personalities, their characters significantly differ because of the personality swap.
    • Stryxxxer has a more Large Ham attitude than his original counterpart, which, combined with his original counterpart's calm and stoic front, resulted in him becoming a preppy goth. He's blunter and more to the point like Mic is, often not afraid to criticize people for their looks and appearances.
    • Sunny Day, while still as cheerful and outgoing as her original counterpart, takes her job as a pro hero more seriously...sometimes even too seriously. She's also less prone to loud outbursts like Mic unless prompted or if she's feeling extremely emotional. Sunny mostly keeps her opinions to herself and is less blunt than her original counterpart.
      • Although she will tend to info dump about a person's quirk when she announces them.

  • Portmanteau: The new quirk mentioned above, Zhao, is a portmanteau of the Chinese phrases 'Xīnghuǒ' (spark) and 'Zhào liàng' (illuminate).

  • Power Stereotype Flip
    • Sunny Day, despite being Present Mic's counterpart and having the same quirk, is the invert of the Life of the Party personality. As implied above, Sunny Day is a bit of a Nervous Wreck most of the time.
    • Same can be said about Stryxxxer, who despite being Eraserhead's counterpart and having his quirk, is the invert of The Stoic that their canon counterpart is.

  • Recursive Acronym: The mentioned above H.E.R.O. device stands for H.ero E.volutionary R.evamp O.utfit.

  • Shoutout: This fanfic will have at least one reference to cartoons that the author grew up with.
    • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: This show is the most heavily referenced in the story, mainly due to the author being a fan of MLP since the first generation. The following references are shown below:
      • The new type of quirk, or Zhao, is a quirk version of a cutie mark.
      • The Mane Six inspired some of the main cast's personalities and designs.
    • The full name of Zhao is a reference to the first child born with a quirk in My Hero Academia, the reference being both the baby's quirk and how they were born in China.
    • Power Rangers and Pretty Cure are the main inspirations of the H.E.R.O. device, as the author felt that having heroes transform into their hero costumes is more practical and effortless than constantly changing in and out of them. She's also a sucker for transformation sequences.
      • One specific shoutout to Power Rangers RPM will be made as the main cast continuously point out weird things they notice about transforming, similar to how the Rangers did in the episode "Ranger Blue". Stryxxxer even points out that every time they transform, they seem to be forced by the device to say a corny catchphrase after transforming.
    • Voltaire is one of the main inspirations of Stryxxxer to the point that the author did a whole Race Lift where they are half Cuban-Russian, with the Cuban part a clear nod to Voltaire being of Cuban descent. Voltaire's choice of fashion also inspired Stryxxxer's gothic attire. It doesn't help that said musician looks a bit like Stryxxxer's original counterpart either.

  • Spared by the Adaptation: The author spares Oboro from being killed off and turning into Kurogiri, enabling him and his friends to fulfill their hero agency dreams.

  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Stryxxxer is the personification of the trope. They are the result of Aizawa wishing he was more like Present Mic, causing the former to be more different from his past self. It also allows Stryxxxer to see his past self's actions in a different light, resulting in them realizing how problematic Aizawa was when he was alive. This prompts Stryxxxer to actively try to avoid being anything like Aizawa to the point they visibly cringe whenever they are compared to their past self.
