Stephen Lewis, (17 December 1926 — 12 August 2015), was a British actor best known for playing Blakey in On the Buses and Don't Drink the Water, Smiler in Last of the Summer Wine, and Harry Lambert in Oh, Doctor Beeching!.
He started acting in 1958, and two years later wrote the screenplay for Sparrows Can't Sing, in which he had a small role as a caretaker.
In 1969, he was cast as Inspector Blakey in On the Buses and played the role in every episode and all three spin-off films. After On the Buses ended, Blakey was given a Spin-Off, Don't Drink the Water, where he retired to Spain with his sister, Dorothy (played by Pat Coombs).
In 1988, he was cast as Smiler in Last of the Summer Wine and made frequent appearances until he had to leave the show due to ill health. He was also cast as signalman Harry Lambert in Oh, Doctor Beeching! in the late '90s, and stuck with the role in all 20 episodes.
He died at the age of 88.
