Miki Usami (うさみ みき Usami Miki) (or usamimiki) is a Japanese manga artist. An obscure name in the manga industry, Usami is known for her stories that typically blend between genres including Slice of Life and fantasy. She posted most of her mangas and one-shots through her Pixiv page or her personal site, Rolling Panda, where she happens to be also a member of the namesake doujin circle.

After the completion of Flower Girl in Dystopia, Usami would go on to work with Comic Cune to serialise Taisho Kitan Majo in the summer of 2022, with the first volume being released in February 2023.

Her personal site can be found here: Rolling Panda Her Pixiv page

Tropes

  • Fantastic Racism: Taisho Kitan Majo and Rain's Head focuses on a human-centric world where non-humans (or witches in Taisho) are discriminated by human society. Flower Girl in Dystopia is a Persecution Flip example as the human girl faces discrimination against non-humans.
  • Minimalism: Especially omnipresent in Usami's Doujinshis, where these stories take place in one location only. They also have a Minimalist Cast, featuring between one to three characters.
  • Minimalist Cast: Usami's mangas often feature only two or three recurring main characters. In some cases, only one recurring character appears in the story.
  • Reclusive Artist: Despite having a full name, anything about Usami is relatively unknown, in line to her obscurity as a mangaka.
  • Signature Style:
    • Usami is often known for minimalistic works, with most of them often taking place in one or two locations, as well as having a Minimalist Cast.
    • At the same time, the main protagonists in her stories often feature boys and girls who are either children or teenagers. The exceptions to this rule are Nata in Mahotsukai no Monogatari -kioku-, Tsunoko Yagisawa from Tsunokei Joshi wa Kokurenai, Tsubaki Hanazawa from Camelia and Sakuraba Lindonia in Namae no Nai Oto, as they are all adults from the start to the end.note
  • Shared Universe: Hoshi Hiroi, Hoshi Kouzyou and Tabibito Ga Nokoshita Tegami all take place in one shared universe as Hoshi No Yubinkyoku, due to the titular Star Post Office being mentioned in all three stories, as well as the appearance of Menoka in Hiroi, Yubinkyoku, and Tabibito Ga. Kuna also makes an appearance in Hiroi and Tabibito Ga alongside Menoka.
