"Solo existe una, no hay imitaciones."Translation

Chanel Terrero Martínez (b. 28 July 1991 in Havana, Cuba), also known mononymously as Chanel, is a Cuban-Spanish dancer, actress and singer, best known internationally for representing Spain in the 2022 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "SloMo", landing the country's first top-three finish since 1995.

Prior to her Eurovision stint, Chanel was already a familiar face to Spanish television viewers because of episodic and secondary television roles in the likes of Águila Roja, El secreto de Puente Viejo, Gym Tony or El Continental. She appeared as a backing dancer in the early seasons of Tu Cara Me Suena as well.

She has also built a successful career in musical theatre, performing in Spanish-language productions of The Bodyguard, Nine, The Lion King or Mamma Mia!, among others.

Theatre:

Film appearances:

  • Brain Drain 2 (2011)
  • The King of Havana (2015) as Yamilé
  • El último invierno (2018)
  • La llorona (short film, 2019)

Selected television appearances:

  • Águila Roja (1 episode, 2011)
  • Gym Tony (236 episodes, 2015-2016) as Deisy
  • iFamily (8 episodes, 2017) as Isa
  • El secreto de Puente Viejo (62 episodes, 2017) as Lucía Torres
  • Cupido (6 episodes, 2018) as Venus
  • El Continental (10 episodes, 2018) as Julieta
  • Benidorm Fest 2022, competing artist
  • Eurovision Song Contest 2022, Spanish entrant
  • El Inmortal. Gangs of Madrid (8 episodes, 2022) as Perla

Tropes seen in her work:

  • Betty and Veronica: Chanel portrays the Archie in "Ping Pong", caught in a Love Triangle between her attentive, caring current boyfriend and a bad boy-type ex.
  • First-Name Basis: She has adopted the mononym Chanel since taking up music. Before that she was credited with her surname.
  • Love Triangle: Her 2023 single "Ping Pong" is about going back and forth between her current boyfriend and an ex she is still seeing, being unable to decide between them.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Frequently.
    • The lyrics of her Eurovision song, "SloMo" hinted that she had the moves and looks to get all eyes on her, a point her choreography and outfit in the performance proved.
    • One of her scenes on iFamily had her character, Isa, flash her bra when trying to wake up her lover from a coma (she doesn't know he's faking it).
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Lampshaded in an episode of Gym Tony, where she forced her Cuban accent (which, having moved to Spain at age four, she had probably lost with time) to play Deisy, the gym's Cuban Zumba instructor, and other characters mocked Deisy as being so absent-minded, she sometimes forgot her accent.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: Her second single was titled "Toke" instead of "Toque".
