Aleksandr Petrov is a Russian filmmaker and animator. He is best known for his use of paint-on-glass animation, where frames are painted in oil over sheets of glass, then photographed. He won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1999 for The Old Man And The Sea, and received three other nominations.
