Comic Book / Trolls

Go To

A large amount of comic stories have been released for the Trolls franchise, mostly by the period of its first movie. The comics were mainly made by Egmont Group.

Currently, the only comic book series related to them is Trolls Graphic Novels, published by Papercutz. Despite the series' name, the books are actually compilations of Egmont's stories.

List of books:

  • Trolls Graphic Novels (2016-2018)
    • Hugs & Friends (2016)
    • Put Your Hair in the Air (2017)
    • Party with the Bergens (2017)note
    • Brain Freeze (book 1) (2017)
    • Brain Freeze (book 2) (2018)

Some Trolls-related merchandise, including the Trolls magazine and "Trolls Annual" books, have also featured comic stories.

The Trolls comics provide examples of:

  • Ambiguous Time Period: While many of the stories have established their period within the animated media, some don't make it clear where they take place. Such stories often feature Creek and Branch simultaneously being part of the Snack Pack, despite that Branch was supposed to be Creek's replacement in the group since the first movie.
  • Ascended Extra: Like in most Trolls media outside the movies, all members of the Snack Pack besides Poppy and Branch have larger roles in the comics. The Bergens are also noticeably far more used than anywhere else in the franchise.
  • Brain Freeze: In the appropriately-titled story "Brain Freeze", Cooper gets a brain freeze upon eating a large bowl of ice cream, leading to the Snack Pack to try to help him. When Poppy gives him cocoa, Cooper is cured, but thinks that the actual correct treatment was Poppy's previous attempt by giving him more ice cream.
  • Canon Foreigner: There are some new characters to the comics, including the preceding Pop Troll leaders before King Peppy and Queen Poppy.
  • Karma Houdini: In the "Chefs on the Chopping Block!" story, Chef manages to cheat at a Bergen Town cooking contest without getting caught.
  • Obsessed with Food: Throughout the "Bergens United" stories and in "Pizza Party", it's shown that the Bergens constantly eat food throughout the day, mostly pizza. They're even only interested in events and competitions where food is allowed.
  • Recycled Title: The last two Trolls Graphic Novels books share the title Brain Freeze, taken after the story of the same name, which, however, is only present in the second book. Not helped by the fact that the first one has a scene of the story as its cover.
  • Retcon: In the "New Friends" story, a crowd of Bergens enjoys getting covered in glitter. The animated media explicitly showed that Bergens dislike glitter.
