Main Character

    Remmé

Remmé / Lemegeton

Class: Black Mage

A black mage who was part of the fourth-highest ranking adventurer party. He was removed from the party after his comrades, who weren't aware of his true powers, decided that they would do better without him. He was then found and asked by Milla to work as a "monster" in the impregnable Demon King Castle. The ruler of the castle immediately recognized that Remmé was trained by her grandfather, Lucifer, and decided to make Remmé the chief of staff.

  • Bad Powers, Good People: Remmé wields such powerful black magic, which only serves to harm others, that he could be rightfully associated with the rulers of demons who once fought bitter wars with mankind.
  • Black Mage: Remmé might be a ridiculed black mage, but he was trained by a demon king and has worked hard for years to become strong. He is actually one of the strongest black mages in the current generation, but for good reasons does not want to reveal this.
  • Childhood Friends: With Phoenix. They promised each other as kids to become heroes and reach Rank 1 as a party.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Remmé largely dresses in dark clothes and he does act like The Dragon of an Evil Overlord in the dungeon, but he is actually as heroic as Phoenix. His kindness is the reason Milla fell in love with him.
  • The Dragon: He is immediately given the position of chief of staff in the Demon King Castle, which is the second-highest position of the demon king army, even above the four demon generals.
  • Glory Seeker: He once wanted to be a hero because heroes are cool and he aimed to be the number 1 in the world to seek fame and acknowledgment. On the other hand, his master forbade him from revealing his true powers to hide his identity. As Lemegeton, he is required to hide his true identity, too, but being acknowledged by monsters as a hero is enough for him.
  • Horned Humanoid: His Lemegeton avatar has one horn. He wears it in honor of his master, Lucifer, who gave him one of his horns. Using the mana stored in the horn gives Lemegeton a gigantic power boost, allowing him to overpower Phoenix.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Remmé is a young man who doesn't hold any prejudice against demihumans and defends the weak and innocent, which is why Cashew and Milla come to admire him. It has always been Remmé's dream to be a hero (because heroes are cool), which is why he was initially upset that his class was determined to be a black mage. Milla encourages him to be a hero of the monsters instead.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is a part of "'Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis", or just "Leme'geton" (which is also his monster Sue Donym), a grimoire about demonology. The first part of the "Lemegeton" Ars Goetia describes the 72 demons King Salomon sealed. Lemegeton is given a ring with which he can contract and summon up to 72 people.
  • No-Respect Guy: Initially. None of the viewers and commentators think Remmé is useful, and three of his comrades agree, which is why he is removed from the party. While Phoenix does know how good Remmé is, he has to keep quiet because he promised. However, Milla has been a fan of Remmé's ever since he rescued her, while Lucy quickly deduces that Remmé must have been trained by her grandfatehr. Aerial also realizes that Remmé is stronger than he appears, and Bella eventually concludes that Remmé must have been far more useful than the rest of his party believed, as their performance got significantly worse after he left.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Remmé was part of the fourth-highest party, but no one really believed he belonged there, as he wasn't seen doing much and thought the only reason he was still a part of the party was because the party leader, Phoenix, is his best friend. He is later made the chief of staff of the Demon King Castle. As shown at the end of Volume 1, he is just as strong as Phoenix.
  • Secret Identity: As is required for all dungeon monsters, Remmé has to completely obscure the fact that he is the black mage Remmé. Lucy gives him the name Lemegeton and he chooses to look like a one-horned demon clad in dark robes.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name レメ (Reme) can be spelled in several ways like Remmé, Reme, Leme, or Lem.
  • Token Human: Almost everyone in the Demon King Castle is partially non-human. Remmé is the notable exception.
