Played by: Chow Yun-fat

John Lee, a professional hired hitman, is commissioned by Chinatown crime boss Terence Wei to murder the young son of policeman Stan Zedkov. When Lee fails to complete the mission, he seeks out an expert forger Meg Coburn to obtain a passport he needs to get out of the country. Soon the duo get caught up in a series of life threatening events with a band of replacement killers on their trails.

  • Anti-Villain: He is a hitman, but he has some moral lines that he won't cross, like hurting a child or doing a job out of revenge.
  • Child Soldier: John stated that he was born a soldier. And that he was trained by his father since he was a young child how to shoot a gun. And was later re-educated by his father's colleague.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: When he learns that Wei has hired him to kill a child, he refuses to go through with it.
  • Returning to the Scene: He comes back to Meg's office after the criminals and the police raided and riddled the place with holes just so he could complete his order with meg for the passports.
  • Suggestive Collision: He pins Meg down to his bed holding her at gun point, before cooling down and releasing her and apologizing for it.
