    In general 
  • Anti-Magical Faction: Fjerdans think of Grisha powers as unnatural and dangerous. They even have a special unit called the Drüskelle to hunt and kill Grisha.
  • Hypocrite: The Fjerdan government hates Grisha and encourages its people to think of them as witches, but the Ice Court itself was built by captive Fabrikators and much of Fjerda's weaponry is made possible by making use of the Small Science, again via enslaved Grisha.

Drüskelle

    Jarl Brum 

Jarl Brum

The leader of the Drüskelle and Matthias' mentor.
  • Arc Villain: Of The Nikolai Duology.
  • Dirty Old Man: He appears as a drunk old pervert at first. He's actually playing along with Nina's game until he can trap her.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Genuinely loves his child.
  • Hypocrite: He denounces Grisha as witches, but he's secretly organised for captive Grisha women to become addicted to jurda parem and then impregnated, creating a future subservient slave army.
  • Made of Iron: He was once Matthias' commanding officer on the ship transporting Grisha prisoners, and much to Matthias' surprise, survived the ship sinking.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He legitimately believes he's doing what's best for Fjerda. It's just his idea of "best" has a heaping helping of Fantastic Racism.

    Joran 

Joran

A drüskelle who acts as price Rasmus' bodyguard.
  • Anti-Magical Faction: Joran is a Drüskelle
  • The Atoner: This seems to be what opened his mind to worshiping the Saints with Djel.
  • Corporal Punishment: He endures this frequently at the hands of Prince Rasmus, who takes out his feelings of humiliation on the one person who has no power to fight back.
  • Wham Episode: He was the one who killed Matthias. He's come to regret this.

Grisha

    Hanne 

Hanne Brum

  • Boyish Short Hair: Hanne cuts their hair short in King of Scars and continues to keep it short from then on. Conveniently, shaving one's hair is an accepted way to show piety to Djel, so that's what they tell everyone they did.
  • Healing Hands: Hanne is a Corporalki Healer.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Hanne has to hide that she's Grisha Especially since her father is Jarl Brum.
  • LGBT Awakening: It's revealed in Rule of Wolves that the moment Hanne cut their hair and dressed in men's clothes that they realized they are trans. While they present as masculine, it's not specified whether Hanne identifies as a trans man or nonbinary
  • The Reveal: Hanne is the child of Jarl Brum from Six of Crows.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Hanne is around six feet in height and quite strong.
