Main Characters
Monica
Monica von Ochs
Affiliation: Adrestian Empire
Class: Noble (Chapters 1-12), Priest (Chapter 13+)
The main character of the story. Monica is the heiress to the barony of Ochs, a minor noble family in the Adrestian Empire. When she and Flayn were rescued from the Death Knight and the Flame Emperor's forces, Monica was given permission to return to the Black Eagles house to complete her education.- Adaptational Heroism: In the game, Monica was actually the Agarthan assassin Kronya, a Smug Snake and sadist through and through. Here, she's a polite and hard-working student with no traces of Agarthan heritage.
- Combat Medic: When given the choice between the Mercenary (primarily sword-fighting) and Priest (primarily healing) certification exams, Monica chooses the Priest exam because it allows her to use white magic without restricting her ability to use swords. This contrasts her with Linhardt, the Black Eagles' other healer, who is Afraid of Blood and hates using weapons, and thus relies on using wind-based magic or anything that will cause as little bleeding as possible.
- Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Monica enjoys cooking and collecting dolls, and her Custom Uniform includes a large, frilly red ribbon. She also is an aspiring sword-fighter who isn't afraid to go into battle when there are enemies who need killing.
- Knightly Sword and Shield: Monica carries a longsword and a shield into battle, occasionally using the latter to block attacks meant for her allies.
- O.C. Stand-in: As very little information is given about Monica or her house in canon, most facets of her personality and background were made up by the author for the purpose of this fic.
- Red Is Heroic: Monica is heavily associated with the color red, from her hair color to the ribbon on her school uniform to the color of her house's flag (even though she's a member of the Black Eagles).
Byleth
Byleth Eisner
Affiliation: Independent (officially Church of Seiros)
Class: Mercenary
Byleth is the only daughter of Jeralt "The Blade-Breaker" Eisner, the former captain of the Knights of Seiros. She was hired by Archbishop Rhea to fill a teaching vacancy, and subsequently accepted the position as the professor of the Black Eagles, a house consisting mostly of nobles from the Adrestian Empire.- Badass Teacher: Years of experience as a wandering mercenary helped prepare her for life as a Military Academy instructor.
- Everybody Calls Him "Barkeep": Byleth's students just call her "Professor" out of habit, even though Manuela and Hanneman are also teachers at the Officers Academy. When conversing with the other two teachers, they call her by her name to make things less confusing.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: She is the only one capable of properly wielding the Sword of the Creator, a weapon believed to have been blessed by the goddess herself.
- Only the Chosen May Wield: Unlike in the game, where the Sword of the Creator loses its special Whip Sword capabilities (and is much heavier) in the hands of anyone but Byleth, Ferdinand explicitly tells Monica that only Byleth can be trusted to wield the sword.
Edelgard
Edelgard von Hresvelg
Affiliation: Adrestian Empire
Class: Lord
Edelgard is the only surviving daughter of Emperor Ionius IX of Adrestia, and is next in line to inherit the Imperial Throne. She is the current leader of the Black Eagles house.- Not So Above It All: Though she tries to put on a façade of seriousness most of the time, Edelgard will sometimes smile or smirk at things she finds amusing, such as Dedue's Undying Loyalty to Dimitri, or anything involving Monica's relationship with Constance.
- Party Tank: Edelgard uses her heavy shield to defend herself and her house members from damage.
- Supporting Leader: Edelgard leads the Black Eagles as a whole, but mostly plays a supporting role in Monica's quest to reintegrate with academy life.
Supporting Characters
The Church of Seiros
Seteth
Seteth
Affiliation: Church of Seiros
Class: Wyvern Rider
Seteth is the chief advisor to Rhea, and handles much of the administrative duties for the Church of Seiros. He is very protective of Flayn, having experienced her being kidnapped by the Death Knight.- Reasonable Authority Figure: Some of Seteth's protectiveness of Flayn filters onto Monica early on, as he doesn't want her to do anything that will get her into trouble or reflect badly on her. Despite her misgivings, Monica understands that he means well. He also agrees to let Byleth take Flayn with her to help defend Remire Village after discussing the matter with Rhea, secure in the knowledge that she'll be adequately protected without him nearby.
Flayn
Flayn
Affiliation: Church of Seiros
Class: Priest
The younger sister (so she says) of Seteth. After being rescued from the Death Knight and the Flame Emperor's army, Flayn was placed under the protection of the Knights of Seiros to prevent future kidnappings. When not assisting Seteth with administrative duties, she provides spiritual and emotional support to Monica, whom she healed after the latter suffered serious injuries in her time in captivity.- Blow You Away: In addition to her Healing Hands magic, Flayn specializes in wind-based spells.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Flayn really enjoys fish...catching and eating them.
Officers Academy Students
Ingrid
Ingrid Brandl Galatea
Affiliation: Holy Kingdom of Faehrgus
Class: Soldier (Chapters 4-8), Pegasus Knight (Chapter 11)
Ingrid is a knight-in-training from Galatea, a noble house in the Holy Kingdom of Faehrgus. She initially serves as Monica's tour guide upon the latter's return to Garreg Mach.- Pegasus: In Chapter 11, Ingrid receives one upon getting her promotion to Pegasus Knight. She names her new mount "Daphne", which is one letter away from sharing a name with her family's Crest, "Daphnel".
Leonie
Leonie Pinelli
Affiliation: Leicester Alliance
Class: Archer
Leonie is a hunter from Sauin, a village located in Leicester Alliance territory. She looks up to Jeralt and fancies herself his number-one apprentice.- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Leonie and Monica are on friendlier terms in this story, as opposed to canon, where she curses Monica's name after Kronya, posing as Monica, kills Jeralt. Leonie is so broken up over his murder that she continues to refer to Kronya as "Monica" long after her death.
Knights of Seiros
Jeralt
Jeralt Reus Eisner
Affiliation: Independent (officially Church of Seiros)
Class: Paladin
Jeralt is Byleth's father, and the former captain of the Knights of Seiros. He was called out of retirement to rejoin the Knights at the same time his daughter was hired as the new professor at the Officers Academy.- Locked Out of the Loop: He doesn't like the fact that Rhea never calls him in on any meetings she has with Byleth.
- Old Master: Jeralt was this to Byleth before rejoining the Knights, and currently acts as one to Leonie.
Other Allies
Anna
Anna (no last name given)
Affiliation: Independent (Merchant Guild)
Class: Merchant
A traveling merchant who sets up shop in Garreg Mach's market square. She loves collecting and selling rare goods. Constance
Constance von Nuvelle
Affiliation: Independent (actually a former Adrestian noble)
Class: Mage
A mage Monica and her friends meet in the market in pursuit of information on Monica's first quest. She is the lone living member of the Nuvelle viscounty, as the house suffered significant losses when it was invaded by Dagdan forces in the Dagda and Brigid War.- Adaptational Backstory Change: In The Ghost of Ochs, Constance doesn't live in Abyss, but in the town outside the Garreg Mach Monastery.
- Affectionate Nickname: Monica calls her "Connie" a lot.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: As in the game, Constance hates being out in the sunlight. Cloudy and rainy days are no problem for her, but when the sky is clear, she suddenly gets very depressed.
Baron Ochs
Nicolaus Emanuel Ochs
Affiliation: Adrestian Empire
The baron of House Ochs, as well as Monica's father. After losing his territory in a war against Brigid, he opened a stonemason's workshop in Drachen, a village in the mountains of Fódlan's Fangs, with the intent to rebuild his war-torn land from the ground up.- Adaptational Heroism: He was originally an Anti-Villain who only fought the heroes because he thought it would help him get his (dead) daughter back. Disapproval of the people of Brigid aside, the baron is a less confrontational person in Ghost.
- Impoverished Patrician: Following his loss during the Dagda and Brigid War, all Baron Ochs has to his name is his workshop.
Hapi
Hapi
Affiliation: Independent (Village of Timotheos)
Class: Mage
A girl from the hidden village of Timotheos. She was arrested in connection with a pair of demonic beast attacks due to her powers attracting them.- Blessed with Suck: Hapi originally had a talent for taming and attracting wild animals, but somewhere along the way, this power was corrupted into drawing demonic beasts to her whenever she sighs.
Myron, Theo, and Phil
Myron, Theo, and Phil
Affiliation: Independent (Village of Timotheos)
Class: Mage (Myron), Mercenaries (Theo and Phil)
A trio of men from the village of Timotheos, located near the Sealed Forest.- Good All Along: When Ferdinand, Caspar, and Petra encounter the men during the investigation of the attack on Garreg Mach, they almost get into a fight when each side accuses the other of staging an ambush. They come to an understanding when Myron and co. are targeted by Myson and his henchmen in the Sealed Forest.
- Those Two Guys: Myron is the one who helped Hapi control and refine her powers, but little else is known about Theo and Phil other than them being Myron's bodyguards, and they're rarely seen apart from each other.
Antagonists
Kronya
Kronya
Affiliation: Those Who Slither in the Dark
Class: Assassin
A mysterious individual who was involved in Monica's kidnapping.- Arch-Enemy: She and Monica have a mutual loathing for one another. Monica hates Kronya for kidnapping and torturing her, and she hates Monica for not dying.
- Loves the Sound of Screaming: Kronya gets excited at the prospect of inflicting horrible damage on Remire Village.
- Psycho Knife Nut: Monica says Kronya loves to stab people who make her angry, and Monica has the scars to prove it.
Myson
Myson
Affiliation: Those Who Slither in the Dark
Class: Dark Mage
A dark mage and ally to Kronya who is involved with unethical experiments.- Ascended Extra: In the game, Myson was merely an optional Mini-Boss who appeared near the end of the non-Crimson Flower story routes (and later as the boss of Yuri and Constance's paralogue). In this story, he's one of the Arc Villains responsible for the attacks in and around Garreg Mach.
- Bee-Bee Gun: One of Myson's signature spells is Swarm, which sends swarms of magical bees at his targets.
- Eye-Obscuring Hat: He wears one as part of his main ensemble, which he uses to hide his face from his enemies.
Raine
Raine
Affiliation: Thieves
Class: Mage
A bandit that Monica, Edelgard, Ingrid, and Leonie fight while attempting to recover some cargo for Anna.- Blow You Away: She is first seen carrying a (stolen) tome of wind magic, which she uses to threaten the caravan driver.
- Starter Villain: The first major opponent Monica faces upon her return. True to Fire Emblem tradition, she's the leader of a small pack of bandits.
