** Nick is a certified CPR instructor, but it was (mostly) averted as Matt (who knows CPR from taking Nick's class) was the one who decided to do the CPR Roadblock in Leg 6.

** In Leg 6, Simi and Ope were forced to wait until the Analyze Detour had an available station, since Ope could not swim for the Synchronize Detour. Averted in the final challenge of the leg, when Ope forced himself to overcome his fear so he could continue paddling one kilometer across Ramsay Lake with Simi; they were rewarded with kind words from ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'' host Creator/AlexTrebek at the Pit Stop, whom Ope happened to be a big fan of.

* FatalFamilyPhoto: Averted during Leg 4 in Halifax where Leilani discussed the death of both her parents and noted the day they were running the leg was the same day her mother died of cancer, with pictures of her and her parents were shown at this point. They came in 1st during the leg.

* ChekhovsHobby:
** Played Straight in Legs 2 and 3, as their knowledge of Spanish allowed them to breeze past the detours in both Chile and Argentina. Slightly subverted during the Mentos Roadblock as while Sabrina was able to get the answers for the Roadblock almost immediately, she FailedASpotCheck with one of the letters and took a while to finish.
** Also averted in Leg 3: Nic used to be a soccer player and thought that the Blind Soccer challenge [[TemptingFate would be easy for them to complete]]. They ended up struggling for two hours and ended up quitting the task and taking the 2-hour penalty.

* OneSteveLimit: Averted with Nick Foti.

* FatalFamilyPhoto: In Santiago, they discussed their extensive travel history with some photos capturing some of their adventures. Ultimately averted as they came first in the leg.

The taxi driver interpreted it as needing to go to 9 Agincourt Drive instead, pushing them to last place.

Finally, during the Suds detour, he insisted to Michaelia that they didn't have to do anything other than do beer deliveries despite [[ReadTheFreakingManual the clue stating that they also had to pick up two beer kegs from each location]]. All three actions combined eventually led to their elimination.

* NeverLiveItDown: After spending 3 attempts trying to complete the Analyze Detour in Leg 6 (something they would have known how to do as police officers), Brian noted that if the other teams found out what they truly did [[{{InUniverse}} they would wonder what kind of cops Brian & Cynthia were]].

* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Leilani is afraid of heights so she did the Paragliding Roadblock in Santiago.

* DisqualificationInducedVictory: A variant: because Simi & Ope and Neil & Kristen opted to take penalties at the Face-Off in Leg 5, Neil and Sabrina were not able to do the Face-Off themselves and thus did not have to take a penalty. They were even able to check in ahead of both teams at the pit stop, but that was ultimately subverted as it was a non-elimination leg.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Despite being one of the early outs of the race while being badly OutOfFocus, they were quite popular with the fanbase, [[{{In-Universe}}finishing second in voting for Favourite team of the race]] (with a prize of free gasoline from Petro Canada for a year). But because the actual winners with Gino and Jesse (who won free gas for ''life''), Dana & Amanda ended up with the Favourite Team prize by default.

Professional Main/{{UFC}} fighter and his girlfriend. At the Sports Broadcasting Roadblock, Elias's dyslexia caused him to have difficulty pronouncing the words throughout the challenge. This put them so far behind that despite a good performance by Max at the Atlantis Obstacle Roadblock, they were ultimately eliminated in 12th.

* GeniusBruiser: Not to the level of Nick & Matt, but they proved to be much smarter and have a lot more GenreSavvy than their muscles would suggest
* GenreSavvy: Knowing that two teams had asked for penalties, they decided to work with Nick & Matt and Brian & Cynthia to complete the Flight Plan task, so that they were able to maintain a buffer with the teams who did get a penalty.

* GenreSavvy:
** After they were U-Turned by Gino and Jesse in Leg 5, they immediately knew that they were targeted to force them to use their Express Pass. At the same time however, they knew that there were several teams behind them at this point, and chose the weakest team of that group (Nic and Sabrina) to be U-Turned, so that they could complete both sides of the Detour, while knowing that they would maintain a buffer with a team presumably in last place.[[note]]One would think they were foolish to waste their U-Turn power but the rules were changed to allow teams to have their U-Turn powers for each U-turn on the race, as evidenced by Gino & Jesse being able to use the U-Turns twice.[[/note]]
** They breezed through the Paper detour in Leg 11 when they started looking for heavier trash to put in their bins in order to be above the 13 kilogram limit.

* StrategyVersusTactics: See GenreSavvy. Their intent was to hold on to the Express Pass for as long as possible until they needed it to actually survive a leg. This would come in handy in Leg 7 (the last leg they needed to use the express pass), allowing them to skip the Airport Flight Plan Task, and eventually win the leg.

** In leg 11, while they were GenreSavvy enough to call a cab after witnessing Gino & Jesse and Nick & Matt fight over the latter team's cab, the fact that they did not instruct their initial cab driver to remain when they arrived at the Detour would cost them dearly, as having a cab ready at that point would have allowed them to bypass Nick & Matt instead.

* GenreSavvy: Nic was the first to figure out that he didn't really need to read the teleprompter during the Sports Broadcast Roadblock on several points during the broadcast as he realized that, at that point, he was only providing commentary to footage that would normally be replayed on screen. During those points, [[LoopholeAbuse he read straight from the script instead and ended up being the second to complete the task]]. Many other contestants doing the same Roadblock would follow his trick.

* WeHardlyKnewYe: Their only significant characterization was when Elias was struggling with the Sports Broadcasting Roadblock when they mentioned his dyslexia.

** Subverted during Leg 2. Neil thought that his experiences with sports broadcasters would allow him to breeze through the Sports Broadcasting Roadblock. He ended up struggling and was one of the last ones to complete the task.

* FatalFamilyPhoto: Averted Hard during Leg 4 in Halifax where Leilani discussed the death of both her parents and noted the day they were running the leg was the same day her mother died of cancer, with pictures of her and her parents were shown at this point. They came in 1st during the leg.

* DownToTheLastPlay: While heading to the Pit Stop in Leg 5, they took a wrong turn with Neil and Kristen behind them. Despite Kristen's GameBreakingInjury, they were not able to catch up and ended in last place (both teams incurring the same penalty). Subverted as it was a non-elimination leg.

* DrivesLikeCrazy: Discussed during Leg 8 when they arrived in India and noted that people were driving with no discernible lanes. Gino then wanted to put on his seatbelt only to find ''there weren't any''.
