* [[KickTheSonOfABitch Kick The Bitch]]: He kicks a 10 year old girl as hard as he can, shattering her jaw, knocking out her teeth, and severing her tongue. However, given what [[RoyalBrat said girl was like]], and the fact she was ''actively torturing him at the time'', it's hard to blame him.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: What she does to Queen Milena, who quite thoroughly deserved it.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: The kickee in this case. In any other book, the hero knocking the teeth out of a 10 year old girl's mouth would be a horrible thing to do. But in any other book, said 10 year old girl ''probably'' wouldn't have been torturing him at the time while threatening to have his love interest gang-raped and executed.

* ArcherArchetype: Fits the cold, analytical version of this trope. His job among his people is to assassinate intruders with his bow, and he's very, very good at it.

* BoobsOfSteel: Of Richard's personal bodyguards, she's noted as being the bustiest.

* NoPronunciationGuide: Without it, her name can be a little tricky to pronounce. According to the author, it's "KAY-lan".

* KnifeNut: Carries enough daggers that he can give several away to people who are unarmed and still have plenty.

* KnifeNut: A rare heroic example. After being tutored by her adoptive father Chase. She has no particular love of knives and daggers, but being a young girl, they are the weapons that suit her best and she makes lethal use of them in the later books. She keeps several strapped to her legs; most she is seen tossing to Chase for him to use, but she always keeps at least one all to herself.

* KnifeNut: Knives are his preferred weapon, both for combat and his [[ColdBloodedTorture favorite side activities]].

* BalefulPolymorph: Giller turned him into a wolf by magic but he ''choose'' to be a wolf.

* UpToEleven: She is so beautiful that ''[[WorldsMostBeautifulWoman Kahlan]]'' feels "as ugly as a clod of dirt" just by standing in her presence.

* UnstoppableRage: UpToEleven when Richard hits her BerserkButton mentioned above.

* JackTheRipoff: With a preference for taking his time which drives the trope UpToEleven.

* BerserkButton: Anyone trying to harm Kahlan. Or following beliefs that Richard doesn't agree with.

* BerserkButton: Anyone trying to harm Richard. The Con Dar turns this UpToEleven and makes her damn near {{unstoppable| rage}}.

* BerserkButton: If anyone thinks they can cheat a trader, they had better stay away from Brophy. Also, just the thought of Demmin Nass. And the claim he might have hurt a child.

* BerserkButton: Just the thought of a male Confessor does it for her.

* BerserkButton: Kahlan taunting him about what his father did seems to hit several at once.

* BerserkButton: He values his relationship with his wife, Teresa, above all else. Things do not go well for anyone involved when she cheats on him.

* TautologicalTemplar: In a case of a [[MoralDissonance stunning lack of self-awareness]] he makes a speech that boils down "They think their cause is noble, so they're justified in doing whatever bad things they like. But they're wrong! We're noble. So we're justified in doing bad things."

* WitchSpecies: In all senses. Like many creatures of magic, being a witch woman seems to run in the family.

* NakedPeopleAreFunny: He prefers to use his wizard's rock naked, because clothes interefere with the experience.

* SheIsAllGrownUp: Well, not ''all'' the way, but it's invoked, in a non-romantic way. When Zedd is captured, he sees a girl who looks like her, only a little older. He chalks this up to his mind playing tricks on him... until he spots the "guard" with her, recognizes him as Chase, and realizes it ''is'' Rachel a couple years older, since he hasn't seen her in that long.
