Danny Tripp
Matt Albie
- Significant Wardrobe Shift: In the present day, Matt’s almost always wearing a suit. When we see him in flashback seven years earlier, during his first stint at Studio 60, he’s in t-shirt, jeans and a backwards baseball cap. But that was before he was management.

Harriet Hayes
- Cannot Tell a Joke: Harriet doesn’t do that style of comedy, and proves to be horrible at it when trying to rehearse a joke for an acceptance speech.
- Celebrity Impersonator: Harriet’s good at doing different voices, including impersonations. So several of her sketches cast her as celebrities.
- Token Religious Teammate: The only Christian in the show’s cast. This is a recurring source of friction with Matt. Tom and Simon also acknowledge that Harriet’s involvement also partially shields them from criticism from the religious right.
Simon Styles
- Really Gets Around: and isn’t always good at remembering the women’s names. All of this catches up with him in ‘The Disaster Show’, when he’s unexpectedly dumped because of his reputation.
- Token Minority: the only non-white member of Studio 60’s main cast, and very conscious of it. He’s also very aware that the writer’s room team is entirely white.

Jack Rudolph
- Drinking on Duty: When things go wrong, Jack is often seen asking for a drink. Or searching for a drink. However, his drinking at work doesn’t get out of hand - unlike his drinking at some of the wrap parties.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: well, sometimes. Jack can be an ass, but he’ll also stand up for others now and then.
Cal Shanley
- Translator Buddy: For Lucy when she’s crying. She’s incomprehensible to everyone else, including the audience.
