Spirit Folk

General

  • Elves Versus Dwarves: Averted; both races are considered part of the spirit folk and get along with each other with no animosity.
  • Good Counterpart: Like the Kingdom of Beltrum, they initially mistook Rio for a criminal when he's trying to save a girl, then try to reward/bribe him once they realize the truth. Unlike Beltrum, Spirit Folk Village treats Rio as an equal rather than a commoner who can be thrown under the bus for political purposes.
  • Hidden Elf Village: They live deep in a forest away from human civilization west of the Strahl Region. In particular, the gigantic tree situated in the village cannot be seen by regular people as it's hidden by magic, but someone who can detect "Ode", which governs Spirit Arts, can.
  • Loads and Loads of Races: The Spirit folk are made up of several non-human races, including various beastkin, elves, and dwarves.
  • Little Bit Beastly: The beastkin among the Spirit folk include Fox Folk like Latifa and Ursula, Winged Humanoids such as Uzuma, and werewolves ala Sara.
  • Polyamory: Having multiple partners is allowed in their society.
  • Strong and Skilled: Zigzagged; warriors of the village are very skilled at Spirit Arts, allowing them to fight more flexibly than those who use magic. On the other hand, Rio states that they tend to make inefficient movements with their physical attacks due to their inexperience in fighting human opponents.

    Uzuma

Voiced by: Yo Taichi

  • Defeat Means Friendship: Inverted; she knocks out Rio during their first encounter, but later learns he didn't kidnap Latifa, so she apologizes in response and eventually befriends him.
  • Foil: To Princess Christina Beltrum - both characters had bad first impressions of Rio and assumed he was a kidnapper, acting very hostile towards him. Whereas Christina continued to act snooty and dismissive towards Rio despite learning he saved her sister Flora Beltrum from the real kidnappers, Uzuma apologizes to Rio for her actions after learning the full story from Latifa and treats him with respect from then on.
  • Hot-Blooded: She's very passionate, especially when it comes to protecting her people.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After learning of Latifa's relationship with Rio, Uzuma is appropriately mortified that she hastily mistook him for a kidnapper and led a premature attack on him. She sincerely apologizes soon after.

    Sara, Orphia and Alma

  • Cutesy Dwarf: Downplayed; aside from her ears, Alma looks more akin to a human child rather than most depictions of female dwarves in fantasy fiction.
  • The Mentor: Orphia, along with Ursula, teaches Rio how to properly use Spirit Arts as he is mainly using it to imitate magic and doesn't know how to alter the art after casting it. Above all else, Orphia is the village's most prominent Spirit Art user.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Like Uzuma, they apologize to Rio for attacking him for the premature assumption of kidnapping Latifa.
  • Tsundere: Sara has a pretty hard time admitting that she likes Rio, though she'll confess this between friends if pushed hard enough. Similarly, Alma has shades of this but isn't as obvious as Sara.

    Ursula
Voiced by: Yuko Kaida

  • Long-Lost Relative: She states that one of her relatives ran away from Spirit Folk Villages years ago; given that Latifa and Ursula are both fox beastkins, it's implied that Latifa is likely the daughter of that relative.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: After learning Rio saved Latifa from Duke Huguenot's slave collar, she lets Rio stay in Spirit Folk Village, both to make amends to him and for getting Latifa to open up to the other spirit folk.

    Dryas
Voiced by: Yurie Kozaki

A high level mid-class spirit, Dryas' body is the giant tree located in Spirit Folk Village.
