Proctor Apollo

The instructor for House Apollo at the Institute. He is the one who organizes the other Proctors in rigging the game for the ArchGovernor's son.

Absurdly Sharp Blade: His primary weapon.
Eye Scream: Darrow kills him by stabbing him in the head through his eye.
Make It Look Like an Accident: Intends to do this to Darrow in order for The Jackal to win, only for Darrow to turn the tables and be the one to kill him.
Pretty Boy: How he's described in the book.
Starter Villain: He's one of the primary antagonists of the first book, but only as an obstacle to Darrow's advancement. Once's he's dead, the story puts the focus on the real villains.

Proctor Mercury

The instructor for House Mercury at the Institute and the God Loki in Asgard.

The Bus Came Back: Returns as the "God" Loki in Morning Star
Character Death: Averted, he survives the assault on Olympus in Red Rising. But played straight in Morning Star as he was likely executed along with the other Golds that claimed the be the Obsidian's "Gods".
Only Sane Man: Out of all the proctors, Mercury was the only one besides Fitchner who understood that antagonizing Darrow was a bad idea and tried to warn the other proctors against that and that Darrow could be a threat to them.
Younger Than They Look: Described as a small, squat and baby faced man with coiled golden hair.
