    Detective Tamako Nokogiri

Detective Tamako Nokogiri

A police officer who comes to investigate the circumstances behind Bakugou's grievous injuries. She sits with Izuku while her partner, Detective Shitsugen, interrogates his parents.

  • Adaptation Name Change: From Maggie Sawyer to Tamako Nokogiri.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Tamako's been associated with Izuku since he was a kid, but Maggie Sawyer typically doesn't know Superman until he's an adult.
  • Bilingual Bonus: "Tamako" contains the character for "pearl," which is the original meaning of "Margaret," and "Nokogiri" translates to "saw," so putting both together indicates that this is this story's version of "Maggie Sawyer."
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: She's the Good Cop to Shitsugen's Bad Cop. Nokogiri sits with Izuku and tries to assure him that everything is going to be alright on the day of the accident. She is also quick to show concern for Izuku's well-being when he seems to be having a panic attack.
  • Happily Married: The second interlude reveals that Tamako has an unnamed wife.
  • Heroic Build: She's a muscular, kind-hearted cop.
  • Nice Girl: Compared to her partner, she's kind, professional and comparatively optimistic. She assures Izuku that everything is going to be alright and worries for him when he seems to be having a panic attack.
  • Old Cop, Young Cop: She's the friendly but professional young cop to Shitsugen's gritty and cynical old cop.
  • Police Are Useless: Nokogiri is aware of how traditional law enforcement is being increasingly outmoded by the presence of Heroes, but admits that the Heroes are in fact better at saving people in trouble than police officers. She doesn't seem particularly resentful about it when compared to her co-worker, Shitsugen.
  • Punny Name: Her first name means "Precious Child" while her superhuman ability makes it so that she seems to be made of solid stone, with her eyes, in particular, looking like gemstones, so she's literally precious. Her surname, Nokogiri, is a type of Japanese saw, which is, in turn, a punny reference to the character she is based on, Maggie Sawyer.
  • Race Lift: This version of Maggie Sawyer is Japanese.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Nokogiri is the Blue Oni to Shitsugen's Red, being far more level-headed and professional than her irritable Cowboy Cop partner.
  • Sculpted Physique: Her superhuman ability (most likely a Quirk) makes her look as though she were made of stone and Izuku says that he had never seen a woman as muscular as her at that point in his life. This also makes it difficult to tell what her expression is.
  • Straight Gay: In the second interlude, Tamako casually mentions having a wife. Unless you knew that she was this story's version of Maggie Sawyer, there weren't any signs of Tamako being is a lesbian.

    Detective Dan'ichiro "Dan" Shitsugen

Detective Shitsugen

A police officer who comes to investigate the circumstances behind Bakugou's grievous injuries. He interrogates Izuku's parents behind closed doors along with Dr. Tsubasa.
  • Adaptation Name Change: From Dan Turpin to Dan'ichiro Shitsugen
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Dan'ichiro's been associated with Izuku since he was a kid, but Dan Turpin typically doesn't know Superman until he's an adult.
  • Bilingual Bonus: "Shitsugen" is the Japanese word for "marshland," which is the original meaning of the word "Brooklyn" is derived from, and with the nickname "Dan," it's clear that this is this story's version of "Dan Turpin."note
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: His supernatural ability turns his skin bright pink.
  • Cowboy Cop: He has no problems trying to rough up Hisashi while in the middle of interrogating him.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Tsukauchi has a tendency to call him "Dan" for short. Shitsugen insists on being called by his full name, Dan'ichiro.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: He's the Bad Cop to Nokogiri's Good Cop. He rails at the Midoriyas for letting the disastrous brawl between Izuku and Bakugou happen and insists that someone get punished when Bakugou's mom makes it clear that she does not intend to press charges. He also threatens Hisashi with violence when the latter begins mouthing off to him.
  • Holding Out for a Hero: Shitsugen's believes that Heroes are a negative influence because they keep everyone dependent on them rather than teaching them to fend for themselves in a crisis.
Shitsugen: That's the problem with your generation: no one wants to do anything on their own. You kids don't care about getting the short end of the stick 'cause you're always thinkin' "Oh, some guy in spandex is gonna clean everything up, so who gives a shit?" Don't try to tell me I'm wrong.
    Tsukauchi and Nokogiri: You're wrong.
  • Meaningful Name: His surname, Shitsugen, can be translated as "marshland", which is the literal Dutch translation of Dan Turpin's other nickname, "Brooklyn".
  • Old Cop, Young Cop: He's the grizzled, cynical foil to his more idealistic and friendly partner, Nokogiri.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He's introduced with a scowl on his face and is never depicted smiling.
  • Police Are Useless: Shitsugen is aware of this trope and doesn't like it one bit. He is disgusted with the lack of public support for traditional law enforcement thanks to the rise of costumed Heroes.
  • Race Lift: This version of Dan Turpin is Japanese.

  • The Commissioner Gordon: He's one for All Might, supplying him with information on investigations and keeping his Secret Identity a secret. He also handles All Might's paperwork so he doesn't lose face.
  • Deadpan Snarker: For as easy-going as he is, Tsukauchi isn't afraid to snark at both his coworkers and Heroes alike.
Tsukauchi: [reads Wonder Bat's business card, which reads "Most Excellent Wonder Bat: The Richest, Most Fabulous Hero Who Will Ever Save Your Life"] You're quite humble, when it comes down to it.
  • Last-Name Basis: He's only ever referred to by his surname.
  • Nice Guy: He's quite open and friendly to his coworkers and All Might trusts him enough to let him in on the secret of One For All.
