Protagonists

     The Hero

  • Power Copying: After defeating bosses he's able to unlock traits based on their abilities for future runs, using Omicron's Technique to resurrect himself or the Zealot's Shield of Faith to create stained glass barriers that block attacks.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: When the Zealot claims that god is responsible for unmaking the world the Hero is undeterred, saying their refusal to die is also part of god's creation and he intends to fight back regardless.
  • Touched by Vorlons: Omicron notes that the hero defeating him, someone who can unmake galaxies, should be impossible and speculates this may be due to a connection to "him". Omicron is proven correct when Omega admits that he gave the hero the power to survive his apostles out of desire to meet with him.
  • Unique Protagonist Asset: Is the only person who can travel in the broken reality without disappearing, and can even temporarily stitch reality back together by remembering the world. This is eventually revealed to be due being the last living descendant of the man who killed Alpha.

     Yota

  • Theme Naming: Yota appears to be a reference to the greek letter Iota or the psuedo-Greek metric prefix Yotta-, in line with the bosses having greek letters for names.
  • Walking Spoiler: Has a fairly major twist tied into her character revealed in Act IV that makes her difficult to discuss.

Enemies

The Obliterators

     The Lich, Omicron

A powerful undead archmage, and the one responsible for the curse of destruction that ends the Worlds.
  • Celestial Body: Inside his skeleton is a void filled with stars - it spills out of him when he dies.
  • Leitmotif:
    (When Summoned): Cosmic Temperance
    (Boss Battle): Steel Boss Run
  • Meaningful Name: "Omicron" literally means "small Omega", and his destruction of the universe is innately tied to that of Omega's, while he's also the weakest of the enemies the Hero faces.
  • Our Liches Are Different: He's the skeleton of a long-dead archmage animated by a spell that perfectly copied the mage's brain while he was still alive.
  • Puzzle Boss: Has an element of this. When he spawns, he spawns a castle in the panels around him. For every panel that is filled with castle, his HP and strength is increased. If you attempt to fight him without using any Oblivion cards to destroy castle tiles, he will very likely kill you in only a couple of hits. If you do destroy multiple castle tiles, he will be much weaker and more manageable. That said, with the right build you can defeat him without destroying any castles too.
  • This Cannot Be!: The Lich says this the first time he fights the Hero, not expecting anyone to have survived the destruction of the universe, to be able to fight against it, or be able to kill him.
  • Tragic Dream: Omicron believed that, once the universe was unmade Omega would destroy himself and be reborn as Alpha, creating a cycle of cosmic death and rebirth. As such, he believed that destroying the old universe quickly was the best option for its existence. Omega later confides that he would never destroy himself, but he didn't want to ruin Omicron's dream.

     The Priestess, Sigma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc___the_priestess.jpeg
The incarnation of faith itself, she seeks to carry out God's will though fiery speeches and angelic summons.
  • Blind Obedience: As the incarnation of faith itself, she cannot find any fault in her God because whatever action he takes is by definition correct.
  • Clone by Conversion: How Sigma's resurrection functions. A suitable host is slowly converted physically and mentally, with the soul eventually being snuffed out. Sigma views it as an unfortunate but necessary price.
  • Leitmotif:
    (When Summoned): Wheel of Faith
(Boss Battle): Priest in the Mirror
  • Meaningful Name: A capital sigma (∑) is used in general math notation as a symbol to add everything within it. Sigma herself is essentially the physical manifestation of her entire faith.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Sigma's physical body can die, but she will simply reincarnate through a suitably faithful host.
  • You Cannot Kill An Idea: Sigma is not really a person, but instead an idea born of faith in God. So long as one person still holds faith, Sigma will be reborn.

     The Hunter, Tau
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc___the_hunter.jpeg
A hunter who, with his black hole hounds, is tasked to hunt down and destroy any Worlds or Survivors that may have escaped the Lich's Curse.
  • Couldn't Find a Pen: His first Lore Entry details how he uses a Cosmic Leviathan's blood as its ink the same way the Hero would use the parts from other monsters in so many other loops.
  • Egomaniac Hunter: Even while still a mortal, the man loved nothing more than to be praised for his prowess as a hunter and defender of his people.
  • Fallen Hero: For eons he acted as the defender of his homeworld against the many threats lurking in the stars, but when faced with Omega, he destroyed it to prevent it from being killed by anyone else.
  • Hellish Pupils: His eyes are a strange green color with slitted pupils.
  • Leitmotif:
    {When Summoned): Killer X Chase
    (Boss Battle): Star Hunter
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: After the Hero kills him the second time, he states that even if he manages to kill the Destroyer, far as he's concerned, he HAS to be the one to kill the Hero.
  • Sunk Cost Fallacy: When he's forced to consider the possibility that the Hero might have a chance of beating Omega, he rejects it because accepting that would mean confronting the cowardice of his own past actions.
  • Tragic Villain: Confronted with the might of Omega, Tau realized he had found a foe he could not beat. He destroyed his homeworld - which he had defended for eons - by his own hand and joined Omega, but has hated himself for his cowardice ever since.

     The Destroyer, Omega
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc___omega.jpeg
Once known as the almighty God of creation Alpha, after letting Himself be killed by a human, He is reborn as reality's destroyer Omega to replicate that experience.
  • Final Boss: As the leader of the Obliterators, he arrives once his followers have died to face the Hero.
  • Graceful Loser: On dying, he is happy to have faced a true challenge and on repeat kills even offers to answer and question the Hero might have.
  • Leitmotif:
    (When Summoned): Star Judgment
    (Boss Battle): Universe's Storm
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Omega doesn't hate humans or any living being; in fact, he's rather genial when he explains himself to the Hero. It's just that, after becoming Omega, he is absolutely certain that all of existence must be unmade.
  • Power of the Void: Omega's attacks manifest as beams of black energy which temporarily unmake one of the Hero's weapons and stats, leaving only void in their place.
