Player (Warning! Beware of Spoilered Rotten tropes!)

Player

"Maybe the stars were right and we are meant to be together for all eternity and beyond."

The protagonist, and a third-year high school student at Sakura Blossom Academy.

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: After Mokuyoubi goes through an art shift, he says, "And why did she suddenly become so well-drawn?"
  • Character Catchphrase: "I guess that's why they call it puberty, huh?"
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Potentially. After supposedly being forced by the player themselves to squirt mustard all over Moku, he then spontaneously combusts... somehow, and burns to death.
  • The Ditz: He has an... interesting way of thinking, which includes thinking that the stars in space are manipulating his everyday life.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He ends up being late to school while waiting for his student aid buddy, Mokuyoubi, and assumes that she's late as well. This leads to him thinking that the two of them are meant "to be together forever."
  • Face Death with Dignity: In an... odd way, to say the least; In the ending where he burns to death, his final thoughts are him simply wondering if he tastes like bacon.
  • Foreshadowing: At one point, he compares his relationship with Moku to Icarus, but then retracts his thought by saying, "Wait, didn't Icarus die at the end of that story? I don't wanna die." Sure enough, depending on the player's choices near the end of the story, he either burns alive or gets stoned by an angry mob.
  • Four Is Death: Of the four characters at the Sakura Blossom Cherry Blossom Festival, he's the only one to die in any of the endings.
  • Geek Physique: He's got the thin version.
  • The Hero Dies: Depending on the ending, he either burns to death or gets stoned to death.
  • Inappropriate Hunger: When he catches on fire, he considers eating one of his own fingers.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Kokoro Baka Monogatari spoils the fact that Player canonically burns to death.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: At one point, he says, "I feel like my entire life is just an absurd dating sim visual novel with deplorable characters that break the fourth wall."
  • Made of Incendium: At one point in the story, his whole body catches fire instantly out of nowhere. The story gives no explanation as to why this happens.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Downplayed; His eyes are obscured by a shadow.
  • Oblivious to Hints: Interestingly, while he is attracted to Moku from the start, he also overthinks her advances on him, thinking that she's just being platonic when she actually is flirting with him.
  • Otaku: He makes references to several anime, like Naruto, Bleach, and Sailor Moon. Speaking of which...
  • Perverse Sexual Lust: He masturbates to Sailor Moon porn at one point.
  • Player Character: Subverted. Despite his name literally being "Player", the player doesn't actually get to make any meaningful decisions as him... at least until near the end of the story.
  • Running Gag: See Character Catch Phrase above. Also, him losing control of his bladder and bowels.
  • Shout-Out: See Otaku above. He also references Saved by the Bell.
  • Self-Deprecation: Occasionally does this, like when he tries and fails to come up with metaphors:
    "I don't know. I'm no good anymore. I'm terrible."
  • Skewed Priorities: After catching on fire, instead of stopping, dropping, and rolling or trying to find water, he instead tries to eat one of his own fingers.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: He denies being gay multiple times. In the Happy End, he embraces his true sexuality and confesses his love to Emo.
  • This Loser Is You: And how so, with his lack of social skills, his lust for a student who's two years below him, and the fact that he, along with the player, has almost no agency in how the story plays out.
  • Undignified Death: He can potentially die by spontaneously combusting and then pissing and shitting himself as he burns.
  • Walking Spoiler: As one can see from looking at this page, it's hard to talk about Player without bringing up his death in two of the game's endings.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: Essentially how his plan of getting Moku's panties works out; First, his teacher, Sensei, pairs him with Moku's brother, Emo, as a study buddy. This leads to Emo (reluctantly) bringing Player over to his house. And then, while Emo is out of the house, Moku takes her panties off literally right in front of Player and leaves the room, giving him free reign to grab them. They were metaphorically handed to him on a silver platter.

    Mokuyoubi

"Making fun of the less-abled is one of my favorite things to do!"

A first-year high school student at Sakura Blossom Academy, and Player's student aid buddy and love interest.

  • Art Shift: She becomes more realistically drawn when she transforms into Neko Neko Princess.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: At one point, she says "But I am incapable of making my own decisions because I am a dating sim visual novel character."
  • Magical Girl Warrior: She's secretly a magical girl named Neko Neko Princess who fights against the evil Lord Shokushu Goukan, whose goal is to use his army of Nega-Demons to reap souls across Earth.
  • Skewed Priorities: Discussed; She expresses regret about attending the Sakura Blossom Cherry Blossom Festival when she could be stopping Lord Shokushu Goukan and his army of Nega-Demons from reaping souls.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Played for Laughs when she tells Player that she wouldn't follow him into the boy's bathroom... only to then wink at him after saying so.

"Cease your bickering, scrubs!"

The teacher for Class B-52 at Sakura Blossom Academy.

  • Extreme Close-Up: Gets one of his face as he threatens his students to pass their exams, or otherwise he'll kill them and their loved ones.
