Humans

    Izuku "Deku" Midoriya

The main character. A teenager with mysterious powers and an even more mysterious past, his knowledge of and interactions with spirits drives most of the story. He gets involved with the investigation into the Quirk-erasing drugs when helping those who lost their Quirks regain them at their guardian spirits' request.

  • Ambiguously Human: There are many hints that Izuku isn't exactly human in this setting. He can interact with spirits (which even they consider impossible), he exists on three planes at once (while humans only exist on the first plane) and he uses spiritual energy instead of a Quirk. He's suggested to be a cross between a human and a spirit.
  • Aura Vision: He can use this to see where people are and what they're feeling. It also lets him sense people's Quirks, which helps him evade and cancel them to certain extent.
  • Broken Bird: Izuku deals with his trauma by being a sassy "vigilante." This comes from him just being tired of dealing with other people's problems.
  • Born Unlucky: Or as he puts it to Nighteye:
Nighteye: Then I would ask: why you?
Izuku: My personal theory is that I was born under an unlucky star, so no matter how much I desperately wish for a quiet, peaceful, and uneventful life, I’m permanently destined to be thrown under the bus.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Can't seem to stop himself from sassing everyone he meets whether they're heroes, police, spirits or even yakuza.
  • Fusion Dance: Has done at least two so far, once with One For All's spirit, in order to defeat All For One, and again with Time-walker, in order to get Eri out of the Eight Precepts' base. Temple-dog tries to do one with him, although this ended up as a Demonic Possession, since Izuku did not agree to it and wasn't happy about it, to the point where he used the spirit's true name to force it to back off.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: The trauma and terrible experiences he has gone through have left Izuku cynical and jaded, but he still goes out of his way to help people.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Izuku has spent so long being taken advantage of and abused by spirits that he can't bring himself to trust others anymore.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Pretty much everything Izuku does to help people ends up blowing up in his face, either from the traumatic events he keeps going through, dealing with spirits who demand his help and yet still treat him like crap, or the heroes who set a trap to arrest him out of desperation. Despite everything though, he still retains his desire to do good.
  • No Social Skills: Izuku avoids social interaction like the plague.
  • Properly Paranoid: After he gets arrested, Izuku starts painting a protective script on his skin. When Eijirou asks him what it's for, he responds with "preventative healing". This comes in handy when Temple-dog tries to kill him later.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Hates social interaction and pretty much any kind of attention from others, but will still try to do the right thing.
  • Super-Empowering: An accidental example. When he was restoring Eraserhead's lost Quirk, he modified the parts that "felt wrong" to him, which ended up removing most of the hero's previous limitations with his Quirk. This comes back to bite Izuku though, as the added power makes it easy for the Pro Hero to arrest him.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Downplayed, but when the Skinbeast admits that it wants its charge to figure out a way to let it manifest on the first plane because it misses walking underneath the sun, Izuku actually feels sorry for it for a moment.

    Eijirou Kirishima (Red Riot)

An aspiring hero involved in the investigation of the Quirk erasing drugs.

  • Honor Before Reason: It probably would have been smarter to arrest Izuku when Eijirou finds him trying to escape, but he lets the latter go because of his earlier promise.
  • Nice Guy: A kind and helpful person who feels guilty about arresting Izuku and the injuries he got in the process, and feels unhappy about Izuku's implication that he has lived a very lonely life.

     Shouta Aizawa (Eraserhead)

A Pro Hero and teacher at U.A that's involved in the investigation of the Quirk-erasing drug.

    Rappa

A member of an underground fighting ring who originally joined Overhaul in hopes of getting fights that make him fear for his death. He joins Izuku when he escapes with Eri, reasoning that if Izuku was able to take down All For One, he would surely be able to give him a good fight.

  • Blood Knight: Only cares about having a good fight to the death, and will join anyone who he thinks will give that to him. Which is why he defects to Izuku's side.

    Eri

A child Izuku meets in the yakuza's stronghold, who was being used by Overhaul to manufacture the Quirk-erasing bullets.

Spirits

    Senshajou

"Carwash," named by Izuku, is a secret-seeker who appears as a cat. They seem to be on Izuku's side, despairing over being cut out of his life and acting as a fallback plan for him.

  • Anger Born of Worry: Blows up at Izuku when they find him jail, especially since he refused to talk to them for weeks and this is the first they've heard from him since then.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Carwash. They feel extremely annoyed whenever Izuku calls them this, saying that it doesn't capture the magnificence of their true name.
  • A Friend in Need: Despite how annoyed they were that Izuku tried to cut them out of his life, they still help him escape the police.

    Eraserhead's Spirit

A large nine-tailed fox that comes to Izuku for help after its charge loses his Quirk.

  • I Did What I Had to Do: Refuses to apologize for getting Izuku arrested because it was the only way to help its charge.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Senshajou directly calls it this, since its actions led to Izuku's arrest and it refuses to take responsibility.

    Temple-dog

Eijirou Kirishima's spirit, who wishes to aid its charge's investigations into the Quirk erasing drugs.

  • Demonic Possession: When Izuku rejects its offer of channeling its energy through him to escape the heroes, it tries to take over him by force. In its defence though, the kind of connection it tried to form with Izuku would have been mutually beneficial, if Izuku was like any other spirit, and the idea of being possessed wasn't his Trauma Button.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Implied to be its ability. Its power gives Kirishima the ability to turn his skin as hard as stone, and when it briefly merges with Izuku, he can feel how its energy is connected to soil and mud and metal, even the earth itself.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Descibed as being a cross between a lion and a pug.
  • Spanner in the Works: Izuku and the fox spirit had come up with a pretty solid plan of how to fix Eraserhead's quirk and leave without Izuku getting caught. Unfortunately for them, Temple-dog manages to distract the fox long enough for Kirishima to catch up to Izuku.

    The Skinbeast

Overhaul's spirit, who wants its charge to discover the secret of spirits because his resesrch might allow it to walk on the first plane again.

  • Ax-Crazy: Gets its name because of the fact that it enjoys killing other spirits and adding their skins into its collection.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: On the receiving end of this, as it proves to be no match for the kirin-Izuku hybird when it fights them after catching them escaping the Eight Precepts' stronghold.

    Time-walker

Eri's spirit, a kirin who is fiercely protective of her and furious that it was unable to save her from Overhaul until Izuku gets involved.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: After fusing with Izuku, they deliver one to every opponent they meet on their way while escaping the Eight Precepts' base.
  • Fusion Dance: Does one with Izuku, channeling its power and time-rewinding abilities through Izuku, who can influence all the planes (which allows them to affect both humans and spirits).
  • Pet the Dog: When Izuku was being forced to give up all his secrets by Nemoto, Time-walker steps in to stop Dark Scales (Nemoto's spirit), saying that a child doesn't deserve to be tortured that way, even if Izuku is the Name-eater.
  • Playing with Fire: Apart from its time-rewinding abilities, it can also summon golden flames to use both offensively and as a limited means of flight.
  • Time Rewind Mechanic: It is Eri's spirit after all.
  • What Measure Is A Nonhuman: Inverted, as it was perfectly willing to kill Rappa, stating that his life has no worth, until Izuku stops it.
