Rennes "Ren" Sharpe
Protecting Gareth was going to be easy. Protecting these idiots from me was going to be the real challenge.
The protagonist, an unassuming high-schooler who was kidnapped and trained for four years as a human weapon.- Action Girl: Ren becomes a very effective fighter during her training, and often wins fighting more than one opponent.
- Becoming the Mask: Early on in her training, Ren panics and tries to run. She charges into Cole, and the others assumed she was attacking him. Because of that, she gets a reputation as a fierce fighter that she learns to live up to.
- Blade Enthusiast: Ren is trained to use many weapons, but knives are her favorite.
- Deadpan Snarker: Ren will make sarcastic remarks, though it's more prominent in her narration.
- Feels No Pain: Like the other Shadows, she is given the "fire" treatment so she doesn't feel pain.
- First-Person Smartass: She constantly gives sarcastic commentary in her narration.
The world is annoyingly too small sometimes - and I imagine that's especially true at college.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Her first name "Rennes" is only mentioned in the beginning. She's otherwise called Ren.
- Tomboyish Name: Ren notes that her nickname sounds like a boy's name.
- Took a Level in Badass: She goes from an ordinary teenager to a living weapon.
