* NonconformistDyedHair: When Kelly was originally conscripted into the SPARTAN-II program at age six, she was noted to have dyed-blue hair. Later material presents her with brown hair, suggesting she grew out of the idea.

* OneManArmy: According to the Official Spartan Field Manual, the combat effectiveness of a single Spartan-II is equal to that of an entire sector fleet. One of the best examples of this is in The Package, where a team consisting of only five Spartans raids a Covenant fleet to rescue Dr. Halsey. While two of them perish in the battle, Blue Team not only successfully completes the mission, but wipes out nearly every Covenant soldier standing in their way with such ease that the fleet's Supreme Commander starts jettisoning parts of his own flagship in a failed attempt to slow them down.

* EmpoweredBadassNormal: An interesting case where he has the full augmentation suite of the SPARTAN-II line, which straight up inherently makes him better across the field than any other soldiers, but his attachment to the lesser-augged SPARTAN-III teams under his command has him take on his iconic [=SPI=] gear, which contains stealth camo and can be used by any regular soldier, but has absolutely none of the advantages and raw power his S-II status could afford him with a full MJOLNIR armor set.

* AntiHero: Probably one of the best examples in all of the SPARTAN programs combined. He has Gamma Company injected with heightened levels of illegal drugs to help their chances of survival, oversees questionable operations that even he thinks should be court-martialed over, will take any means to ensure his [=SPARTAN-IIIs=] make it out of things alive if he can help it, and negotiates with ONI on the regular for whatever he needs and has to do. Despite this, he's a NiceGuy that still has other's best interests in mind over his own and ultimately is the unquestionably heroic protagonist of Ghosts of Onyx.

Cloning Blues renamed to Clone Angst as per TRS, specifically about angst from a character discovering that they're a clone.

* CloningBlues: Each candidate was replaced with a flash clone in order to cover up their kidnapping. Unfortunately, full human cloning is still somewhat beyond the technological means of the UNSC; pretty much every flash clone fell prey to CloneDegeneration and died by their teens.

* CloningBlues: [[spoiler:Her flash clone might have lived much longer than expected, but she's still wheelchair-bound and dies of medical complications soon after meeting the original Daisy. And to top it all off, the original Daisy almost decides to shoot her when they first meet; thankfully, the two end up parting on good terms.]]

John's usual second-in-command and the leader of the [=Spartan-IIs=] when he isn't available, Fred is a formidable force in his own right, having extremely deadly skills with knives. * BackFromTheDead: Almost half their number died or were crippled during the augmentation process. The deceased were given a funeral, where their bodies were launched into space, but it’s revealed later on that the Office of Naval Intelligence secretly put them in cryo until they could be revived, re-augmented, and redeployed as proper Spartans. It’s explicitly noted in VideoGame/HaloWars2 that Red Team was composed of washouts, and Dr. Halsey’s journal implies Black Team was this as well, to Halsey’s horror.
** This explains how the exact number of active Spartan-[=II=]s after augmentation has been all over the place for years. Literature/HaloTheFallOfReach explicitly states there were twenty-eight active Spartans at the time of the titular event, with twenty-five being present because Gray Team was deployed too deep behind enemy lines to be quickly recalled. From the thirty-three initial survivors to the Fall of Reach, that makes five who died or disappeared between 2525 and 2552, but subsequent media has shows substantially more Spartan casualties, including but not limited to: Daisy-[=023=], Cal-[=141=], Solomon-[=069=], and Arthur-[=079=], all of whom died in Anime/HaloLegends , Kurt-[=051=] who disappeared and was recruited by ONI to train the Spartan-[=III=]s, Randall-[=037=] who was one of the few Spartans to truly be missing, and of course Samuel-[=034=] who died in the book during the Spartan’s first encounter with the covenant. Rehabilitated Spartan-[=II=]s allows for pretty much all seventy-five Spartans to enter the field at some point, unless previously noted to have not undergone rehabilitation, as is the case with Musa-[=096=].
