Abram

One of the three humans reborn in the pilot.

• The Atoner: For his role in the creation of the virus.
• Clap Your Hands If You Believe: It is implied that it is because he is the one that is the most receptive to the Obelisk that he is the only one who can use it.
• Meaningful Name: Abram means "exalted father," and is the name of a biblical prophet who was later called Abraham, the father of the Israelite people.
• My God, What Have I Done?: His reaction upon learning that his past self was the lead proponent of the virus.
• Older Than They Look: Mentally, he's 67, since that's how old he was when his brain state was recorded, physically, he's around 25.
• Slow Transformation: He gets infected by the parasite in the pilot, but is healed in time by Ezra with the Sparks.

Althea

Played by: Denise Dorado

Jax's wife in his first life, before he was reborn and infected.

• The Conscience: When Jax is forced to confront the holographic version of Althea, she tries to appeal to the good in him.
• Hologram: She only appears as a hologram, unless the figure rising from the pool at the end of the finale is her, but we get no confirmation of this.

Drones

Played by: Aaron Johnston (blue), Kirby Heyborne (red), Anna Vocino (yellow)

Sophisticated, artificially intelligent devices that serve the Originators.

• Brain Uploading: They contain brain states of humans before they died.
• Exact Words: They tend to be precise in their wording to avoid saying more than the Originators want them to reveal.
• Memory Jar: They contain the memories of humans.

James Duncan

"Don't ever question my loyalty."

Virtues: humility, labor

Played by: Jake Stormoen

In his first life, he was an FBI agent and, eventually, Feena's boyfriend. When he was reborn, he married Feena, but later became a Skin Rider.

• The Atoner: He is temporarily freed from the parasite on more than one occasion, and each time tries to help the Reborns.
• Big Damn Heroes: Rescues Ezra at the last minute from being stabbed by Jax in the Ancestor cavern.
• Last-Name Basis: Only Eleanor calls him James.
• Psychotic Smirk: A very subtle one in "Broken," hinting that the parasite may not be as disabled as it seems.
• Rogue Drone: Duncan seems like this, but it turns out his parasite is intentionally backing off to let him think he's in control. Once he's inside the settlement, it reasserts itself.
• Tracking Device: Implanted with one by Yellow Drone in an attempt to locate the Ancestor.

Eleanor Nyers

Played by: Anna Sward Hansen

Ezra's and Silas's mother. She works as a volunteer at the hospital, but this is a cover for her work with the FBI and the Originators to help humanity come back from extinction.

• Meaningful Name: "Bright, shining one."
• Secret Legacy: Ezra is surprised to learn that his mother was working with the FBI, not to mention aliens!

Ezra Nyers

"Whoever put us here didn't put us here to die."

Virtues: knowledge, duty

Played by: Chad Michael Collins

A soldier and Lynn's husband, and one of the three humans reborn in the pilot.

• Meaningful Name: "Help." Priest and scribe who rescued a portion of the Israelite exiles from Babylonian captivity.
• Reckless Bow Usage: Holds his finger over the shaft of a drawn arrow more than once. He'd be seriously wounded if he were to release, but never does on the occasions that we see him do this.

Serafeena "Feena" Abbington

"I want to know why I have the memories I do."

Virtue: creation

Played by: Victoria Atkin

One of the three humans reborn in the pilot. In her original life, she was a convicted felon, and fell in love with Duncan. The first time she was reborn, she married Duncan but died in childbirth.

• Blatant Burglar: Wears a T-shirt reading "I READ YOUR EMAILS" while in an FBI facility.
• Dark and Troubled Past: She did time for computer fraud.
• Meaningful Name: "Feena" is short for Seraphina, meaning "fiery one." This is a reference to seraphim, angelic beings mentioned in the book of Isaiah.
• Mercy Kill: She eventually fulfills her promise to Duncan to kill him if he was turned.
• Reckless Bow Usage: Holds her finger over the shaft of a drawn arrow in "Wounds." She'd be seriously wounded if she were to release.

Jax

"There is you, and there is us."

Virtue: justice

Played by: Matthew Bellows

The Skin Riders' military leader. In his first life, he was a soldier fighting against the Karik invasion and was married to Althea.

• The Dinosaurs Had It Coming: Jax's Skin Rider believes humans deserve to be subjugated.
• Evil Gloating: He's prone to this. Ezra points out that doing so prevented him from easily killing him in the Ancestor cavern.
• Good Angel, Bad Angel: Althea is Jax's good angel, while his parasite is the bad angel.

Kylie Rose Nyers

Played by: Cosette Shaha (baby), Jocelyn Jay Black (toddler), Eliza de Azevedo Brown (child), Bailee Michelle Johnson (teen)

Ezra's and Lynn's daughter.

• Meaningful Name: A derivative of Kyle, meaning "victorious." Nicholas's name means "people's victory," hinting at the relationship between these two characters.
• Mercy Kill: Nicholas begs her to kill him when he's infected by the parasite. She holds off until he actually turns, but then complies.
• Say Your Prayers: In a Deleted Scene, when she and her parents are fleeing the Karik invasion, Kylie suggests to her parents that they say a prayer.

Lynn Elizabeth Nyers née Cannon

"I'll never give up who I am."

Virtue: community

Played by: Jaclyn Hales

A nurse and Ezra husband.

• Crisis of Faith: She has one in response to Kylie's death in her first life.
• Slow Transformation: Silas infects her in "Broken," but she's able to use the Sparks to cure herself.

Nicholas

Played by: Nic Luken

• Meaningful Name: "People's victory." Kylie's name means "victorious," hinting at the relationship between these two characters.
• Slow Transformation: Infected in "Death Did Us Part," but Kylie resists killing him until he eventually turns.

Raven

Played by: Shayla McCafferey

• Meaningful Name: She's a Wild Child, naturally.
• Wild Child: While she's affiliated with the Reborns who left the settlement, she spends a lot of time on her own in the forest, and even has a separate home there.

Rowyn

Played by: Melanie Stone

The leader of the Reborns who left the settlement.

Silas Nyers

"I was weak and fragile. Now I'm not."

Virtue: community

Played by: Jack Depew

Ezra's brother, and the spiritual leader of the Skin Riders.

• The Atoner: He is freed from the Skin Rider parasite by Red Drone, and uses what little time he has left to try to save the Reborns.
• Meaningful Name: Short for Silvanus, meaning "of the forest." A New Testament missionary companion to Paul and Timothy. Silas is often depicted in art carrying broken chains, referencing his miraculous liberation from prison, as recorded in Acts 16. Similarly, near the end of the series, Silas is liberated from the influence of the Skin Rider parasite.
• Rogue Drone: Becomes this when he's freed from the parasite.

Tasha

Played by: uncredited actress

Abram's wife before the invasion. She died of a stroke.
