Main Characters

    Erika
The protagonist. Normally heiress to the throne, tradition in the Kingdom of Brutes mandates that the Princess must marry in order to ascend to queendom. However, the fine print mentions that accomplishing quests may work too. Since many neighbouring kingdoms have princes in distress issues, she sets on a quest to save as many of them as possible and prove that she can rule alone.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Book 2 in particular graphically reveals that she's very muscular. Which isn't out of the ordinary in that world, where muscles are a feminine beauty standard.
  • Barbarian Heroine: She's loud, brash, strong, and fighting is usually her default approach to problem-solving.
  • BFS: Her sword looks like a Sword of Protection that would have been made to accommodate Gut's tastes. Or the other way around. Erika wields it with little effort but others, especially princes, have a much harder time.
  • Blood Knight: Loving a good fight is normal in her culture, and she aims to rule the country.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: The badass princess who can knock out a bear with just two punches? Yeah, she's considered a weakling in her kingdom.

    Pita

  • Lethal Chef: Not only does what she cooks taste repulsive, it's apparently really hard to digest as well.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Pita is short and appears rather scrawny. However, according to her function as a squire, she valiantly carries a huge backpack around for Erika and is able to lift and toss boulders around when she's angry.
  • Supreme Chef: Subverted. She's presented as an "excellent cook" by the Mistress of Arms, but that's just a lie in order not to anger her. In reality, she's a Lethal Chef.

    Bucephalus
A horse appointed to Erika by her mentor. He has his quirks, such as refusing that people mount him without washing their hands first.

Kingdom of Brutes

    In General

    Queen Lagertha
The current ruler. She's frequently challenged by contenders who would like to take her title, but so far it's been unsuccessful.
  • Abusive Parents: Not for her country's values, but she's frequently dismissive of her daughter, calls her unworthy, and mocks her aspirations.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: It's unknown if she became queen by marrying or defeating her mother. It is, however, the sole reason she's still in charge – nobody ever comes close to defeating her.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Tackled. She's brutal with her husband, but is clearly on top in the power dynamic and there's likely nothing he could do.
  • Percussive Therapy: She's got an habit of smashing everything around her when she's angry, especially her own throne.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: The court's messenger pigeon, who frequently relieves itself on her.
  • Would Hit A Boy: Her husband is seen giving her a presumably weak slap. She punches, and hits much harder.

    King

    Kaylene
The court's weapons instructor and Erika's mentor. While undoubtedly a skilled fighter, she doesn't seem interested in taking the Queen's place, and rather spends most of her free time napping, drinking, or wooing pretty boys.
  • Cock Fight: Gender-reversed, again. She'll pick on other girls in the street in order to impress the boys.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Not rape, fortunately, but her behaviour with Benoît easily falls within the realm of sexual aggression. Meant as a point of how it is always unacceptable.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She drinks a lot, and prefers having her drinks served by several pretty boys at once.
  • Really Gets Around: She accumulates one-time conquests without a care in the world.
  • The Slacker: When she isn't giving Erika some training, she's not doing a lot of work. Possibly justified in that she's part of the warrior elite class in a medieval-ish society. When there is no one to fight at the moment, she occupies her self with idle activities, or starting a fight.
  • The Casanova: A Gender-inverted example. Men crawl at her feet, and she mostly sees them as interchangeable pleasure providers.

    Royal Advisor
  • Read the Fine Print: She's the one who points out that Erika doesn't actually have to get married to become queen, just prove she is a worthy successor by completing a quest the queen gives her.

Floating Island Kingdom

    In General
  • Our Humans Are Different: Evolved to eat nothing but sugary treats. In fact, they've ceased to be onivorous because of it.
  • Theme Naming: Named after sweets. The royal family has hyphenated names (eg Raspberry-Parfait, Egg-White, and Angel-Delight), and commoners have single names (eg Glucose). The kingdom itself is even named after a dessert, as Floating Islands are merangues (whipped and sweetened egg whites) floated in custard.

    Prince Egg white
  • Expy: Of Snow White, complete with seven dwarf friends.
  • Supreme Chef: He can cook pastries that instantly cause happiness upon injestion. It's implied that they're just that good, no magic required.

    King Raspberry Parfait
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Once freed of Glucose's Mind Control, he breaks down in tears over having ordered Egg-White murdered.
  • Wicked Stepfather: When it started becoming apparent that his step-son Egg-White was becoming a better chef than him, King Parfait became extremely bitter towards him, refusing to taste any of his deserts and making him feel he was being rejected for underperforming. Later, his jealousy leads him to plot Egg-White's assassination, and he expresses utter delight when the deed is finally done. It eventually turns out that this was mostly due to him being under the influence of Glucose, who had been hypnotising him.
